The Religion Trap | Acts 15:1-21

In Acts 15, Peter boldly proclaims that the Gospel message makes no distinctions between Gentiles and Jews and that the gift of salvation by grace is offered to all people. The early church was experiencing tension and division over the religious weight of the 613 Old Testament laws. Jesus fulfilled these OT laws through His perfect life and offers salvation through Grace instead.

Join us this week as Pastor John Lovell warns against being ensnared in religious traps.

The Law was given to EXPOSE OUR SIN. Pastor John nails it!! We NEED Jesus.

Not that all of your other sermons haven't been great but I specifically loved this one. Thank you to the Grace City Church for sharing this message of our Lord and Savior whos love I do not deserve. I needed to hear every word of this today and I feel more empowered and confident in my journey ahead because of it

I am love struck by Jesus! I have no capacity to save myself and I cannot wait for his return or it is my turn to be called home that I might worship my creator in person. The one who saved me that I can give thanks to Christ, praise my father, my Aba (literally translated "daddy") and rejoice for all eternity giving thanks and glorifying him.

It's interesting how there are 600+ Jewish laws, God gave Moses the 10 commandments, then Christ came and said " I do not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it." We as people tend to think we set the standard when it's God who sets it. The reason why Jesus Christ had to come for the sacrifice for all of us ( we can't do it) only he can!.. God bless!!

God doesn’t seem to define religion the way you do. He certainly doesn’t seem to look down on it.

“If any think they are religious, and do not bridle their tongues but deceive their hearts, their religion is worthless. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.”
‭‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭26‬-‭27‬ ‭NRSV

Just listened to this sermon again in a hotel room and got to follow along in my own Bible and read along and take notes! Awesome awesome sermon! I wish I could go to Church this Sunday but sometimes god leads us to a way to make our own church.

To be fair - in the OT, the nation of Israel was saved by grace, similarly. Bible reminds us consistently that the law only condemns, israelites were unable to keep the law, and thus sacrifices were necessary

Is not that thru good deeds you are seeking salvation, rather that because of Love is that you are moved to do good deeds. The same goes for the LAW. It is not that Jesus came to change the LAW, but to fullfill it. Meaning that because of Love, you don't have to be reminded of the LAW to obey God's commanments. 1 Corinthians Chapter 13 reveals the secret ingredient for salvation.

Religious test true or false of the following statement: By grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone ( Ephesians 2:8-9). Onced saved always ( John 5:24, John 3:16). No works required (Romans 4:5).

Let the Bible interpret the Bible.

JAMES 2: 14-26
14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him?
15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give him not those things which are needful to the body;what doth it profit?
17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me they faith without works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, AND NOT BY FAITH ONLY.
25 Likewise also was Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received messengers, and had sent them out another way?
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

let the Bible speak for its self, for it is Gods word.

Romans 6: 1-2
Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid.

1 John 3: 4
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is transgression of the law.

30:25
What was nailed to the cross were doctrines and dogmas of man. Not one Jot nor one Tittle shall be removed from the Law, till all be done. Please, read your Bibles people. The ten commandments are not the only works; we must strive to guard and to do, the word, the law, the works, the commandments given to us to honor our father in heaven, and our brothers and sisters, till all be done. Eternal life or eternal damnation is at stake; it’s our choice, that’s why it’s called free will. Praise be to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, for the Fathers word and all of creation, the Son’s atoning sacrifice to cover for our sins, and the Holy Ghost for discernment during these trials we call life. Amen.
