I really want to watch this (haven’t yet). One thing I’m worried about is the science v religion take. This is a common misconception about European history but, without the Christian church’s dedication to education and their philosophical/ physical inquiries into nature and creation, we wouldn’t even have the scientific method (at least in the West). It was the church that established many colleges and universities, educated people, funded art and research, and sought to understand the world around us through empirical observation. It was a strongly held belief that the best way to know God was to study God’s creation - the pursuit of this knowledge eventually became what we know as science.

It wasn’t science or scientific thinking that inquisitors considered evil and persecuted, it was heresy. Science and heresy aren’t the same thing.

I will definitely watch this anime, I just hope there is nuance in how it handles these historical concepts.
