Maybe it is best for Ukraine to amicably break off the pro-Russian provinces and move on so that they can eventually join NATO with western democratic values. I think that would end up putting pie on Putin's face, and it would probably end this conflict.

What's interesting about his most revealing comment is "we have been very clear we will defend NATO territory"...Does someone doubt that in NATO? it sounds like he is saying that because someone has doubts about that, or Russia would actually attack a NATO country in which it has no dispute with. Yet there's only a few thousand troops in each NATO country next to Russia who would be destroyed quite easily if Russia did that. So why not reenforce those areas. I read a military account a few years ago that said Russia could wipe out most of the NATO forces before reinforcements arrive from the USA and then position tactical nuclear weapons in the direction of the reinforcements to basically say what are you going to do about it.

If I was Putin I would do the same thing because Nato is a military coalition and the west is courting ukraine to join and be right on Putin's doorstep with capitalism and a free democracy and western standard's and beliefs.The USA isn't stupid and very calculated in this.Its like Canada joining Russia's coalition becoming an ally against us and being right on our border.
