Usually only men give darpan for ancestors but at Gaya, women can also offer darpan for their ancestors. This story of Maa Sita gives right to women to do ancestors.
Maa sita performed darpan to ancestors because lord rama and laxman were late, getting material for performing pooja. After lord rama arrived home for pooja, sita told that the pooja had already completed and the ancestors had accepted her pooja. Lord rama didn't believe and so he questioned her repeatedly and for this, she wanted to prove her innocence, she called cow, brahaman and river for witness but they made false statements. Furious Maa Sita called the soul of dasharathan and witnessed himself. He appeared before rama and told the truth and said that he is happy over the pooja offered by Maa Sita.
The truth was realised by everyone but Maa sita, in anger cursed the false witnessed Cow, brahaman and river. She was happy over the tree who told the truth and she blessed it immortal. Also she blessed this place, Gaya to be spiritual where darpan to ancestors can be offered by women also, which is accepted by the ancestors still now.😊

The Brahmin was cursed that his entire clan will always be asking for things from other people for generations, the river was cursed to dry up and that was a banyan tree not peepal tree. The banyan tree was blessed that married women will pray to it. But the reason for the other 3 to lie is also significant in this chapter. Kindly tell that as well.

It was not a pepal tree rather it was a Banyan tree which is still present near mangala gauri temple known today as The Akshay Vat. It was given a boon to become akshay, that is, it will always remain green.

But isn’t it wrong to curse generations of people and animals to suffer for thousands of years for mistakes of one specific animal and one man?

She would NEVER do this to innocent animals. If you are spreading false information about her, YOU ARE THE ONE WHO WILL BE CURSED!

The question is why even Rama didn't believe her own wife while she was just trying to help? With all due respect, he failed multiple times to give her enough priority and respect while later she was asked twice for agni pariksha while she left palace luxury only to be with him. Being a husband, he should've taken her side. Poor Sita as a woman. Patriachy on its top notch.

Yes, that the river will always remain under the sand and it will never flow. I have witnessed it in Real and it’s shocking.

Namaste, can you also please mention in which scripture (Ramayana / upanishad) this story was in? I'm just curious.

When doing such reels, if you can mention the source, it'd be helpful.

Thank you 😊

As far as I know the curse to Brahman was “no matter what good deed or whatever they do they'll always remain poor in pitiful (दरिद्र) condition

This is why I respect more Sita ... people belive Ram is God but he couldn’t see the truth himself, and let his wife get humiliated....
