Hey, I'm giving my boards literally in a little more than 12 hours (even though I knew most of the stuff in this video) this video is super calming(as I am able to understand maybe I know my way around multiple choice questions) and in all honesty I wish I'd watched it sooner thanks for making a difference.

at 10:33 the sickle cell anemia is codominant allele to normal blood group, so a carrier will have both normal and sickle shaped hemoglobin. the answer is correct and is not B because the option in or(Hb A Hb A) IS FOR normal person and is hence wrong because the diagram shows sickle shaped hemoglobin.

Just to add on - In Q35 at 9:08 it is not B, C, D because they have shown in the picture that the person has sickle cells so they can’t have the genotype HBA HBA - also people with sickle cell trait or the carriers may still have sickle cells but it’s unlikely since they don’t actually show symptoms of circle cells anaemia which is why in the picture we can see a lot of more normal red blood cells than sickle cells
Either you can think of it as combinations of parents giving genotype of the child AND the genotype of the persons photomicrograph ( so since they have more normal red blood cells) and still have 1 sickle cell as in the picture; it won’t be a carrier because usually carriers don’t show symptoms of sickle cell anaemia - they don’t really have sickle cells - so it should be combination of the genotype HbS HbS and HbA HbS

If you’re still confused- a simpler explanation is — Actually here we are looking at both the parents genotype and the person sheotype itself since it mentions “combinations of the persons genotype” so when we cross HbS HB A with HbS and HbS the genotypes of the offsprings are SS, SS, AS and AS. This is for option A - we actually get the homozygous recessive genotype of HbS HbS (this is the only genotype that produces sickle cells)

For option D, when we cross it, we get 4 AS genotypes. Remember - the HbA HbS genotypes DOES NOT code for sickle cells. So with this we don’t see sickle cells unlike what’s given in the diagram where there actually are proper sickle cells. This is why the answer is A, not the others..

also good luck to everyone! hope you all give it your best shot and be happy of how far you’ve come 😊

Great video, had a question actually I am currently in class 10th and my school board is CBSE so is it advisable to shift from CBSE TO IGCSE in class 10th? Will it be hard to cope up?

I think for the first question, it came from 0610_m22_22 question 23, and the mark scheme says the answer is D. But i think it is A

Hi I am just a bit confused regarding the question 35. So in the video you mentioned that a carrier of sickle cell anaemia does not have the sickle cell themselves. However, the answer to the question is still A which contains HBA HBS which is the genotype of a carrier. And drawing the test cross doesn't quite make sense as it is asking about the individual and not the parents. So could you please elaborate on that in case sucha question comes in my exams. You already have explained it but I am still having trouble figuring it out, ty.😊

hi have a doubt regarding the first question itself. Doesn't the lowering of the rib cage mean that exhalation is occuring? Because during inspiration, the rib cage moves upwards and outwards to increase the volume. During exhalation, the rib cage moves downwards back to its normal position (or even further during coughing for eg). Hence, shouldn't the answer be C?
