The Battle of Fraustadt occurred on the 2nd of February 1706 during the Polish civil war, part of the great Northern war in then Saxony (Now a part of Poland). The Swedish army of 9,400 led by General Rehnskiöld faced a combined Saxon-Russian army. Before the battle, the Saxon commander ordered the less experienced Russian troops to turn their coats inside out to make them appear more like Saxons and hide the weak spot in their lines. Rehnskiöld discovered the ruse and attacked the weak spot with his numerically superior cavalry. Despite being outnumbered and outgunned facing Russian artillery while he had none, Rehnskiöld deployed his troops in a pincer movement, encircling the larger Saxon force, causing many to surrender.
The Swedes lost only 400 soldiers in the battle, the Saxons and Russians suffered 7,300 deaths and as many captured. Rehnskiöld gave the order that the Russian prisoners who had attempted to disguise themselves as Saxons were to be slaughtered.

Lyric video for Sabaton - Ett slag färgat rött

Video style was inspired by PiscatorLager but since he's stopped uploading, I'm choosing to use his style.

When you select the option "killing prisoners" in Total War

One of the sweetest riff in Sabaton history.

At the second battle of Narva the Russian troops who took the city did the Berlin thing - despite Peter the Great going as far as killing his own men to stop them. News of it reached the Swedes, and although Voltaire never explicitly says so, it's possible that the violence at Fraustadt was a retaliation.

The Swedish version hits differently. Listening to the English version of this song you wouldn't even know about the Atrocities the Swedish Soldiers commited but the Swedish version talks about em and my respect for Sabaton has reached a new level. It was already high to begin with but it can't get any higher after this. Also a great video I learned a lot more history through Sabaton and the Sabaton History Channel than I ever did in a shitty American School.

Caroleans executed about 500 Russian prisoners.
It is debated whether they did this in retaliation for Russian atrocities in Courland or because they believed their inside-out coats were an attempt to be recognized as Saxons, who were given better terms in captivity. Hiding your own identity and claiming to be something else was frowned upon at the time, and sometimes considered reason enough to be denied quarter.
So yeah, since it happened over 300 years ago I don't think anyone will know for sure.

Incredibly advanced Saxons being able to fly already in the 18th century. "One by one the Saxons fly home" It'd be "One by one the Saxons run home"

King Karl wrote to Rehnskiöld after the battle:
“Det syntes Mig väl vara, det som Herr Generalen beslutit. Såväl om Posen som om fångarna”.

Think it should be translated as "A bloodstained battlefield" or something along those lines. Magnificent painting in the background though, where is it from?

The German state of Saxony, Denmark, Russia declared a joint war against Sweden. It was not a war Charles X11 and Sweden started. if you get into the game, you have to endure the game. here Carolines appear as psychopaths which is sick. If you attack, you have to blame yourself. I pay tribute to these Carolines. but one thing. Let's never fight each other again. Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, Denmark, Norway, France
, Italy, Iceland, Finland, Holland, England, Austria, Ireland, Latvia, Estonia, Switzerland, Greece. Love you all from a Swede

1:01 - 1:02 I don't know if this channel is monitored any longer, but if someone does see this, maybe they could help answer a question about a Swedish word used here "dem" . The lyrics say, "En för en flyr Sachsens män hem
Död väntar dem", and *the word "dem" sounds to me like it is being pronounced by the vocalist similar to the English word "them"* . Whenever I put "dem" in Google translate, it speaks the word like, *DOHM* .

Is this a regional dialect thing or something like that? I've re-listened to that part of the song several times, and as best I can tell, he's pronouncing "dem" (rhymes with "them" in English) and not *"dohm"* .

I appreciate this video by the way, thank you.

I prefer the English version. But this is still good.
