For the whole of fontaine to be under water, either the global sea levels need to rise or the island needs to sink. Later is probably more likely so Liyue will be fine and other places will be fine.

They actually hinted at Fontaine being raised up on "plates" in the 4.0 Live and there being ruins of old Fontaine. So something happened at one point.

Imagine being a new player and going rock climbing in Liyue for the first time and looking at the distant and just see THAT, I would go absolutely bonkers

i think the region is actually just Literally sinking and not the water level rising
+theres the one body of water thats said to be bottomless so it would make sense

I spend hours at a time exploring underwater and doing chests etc it’s so fun. I also end up with a bunch of primos too. One of my favorite updates

If the entirety of teyvat sinks, the traveler will obviously save it and we get rewarded with 60 primogems for 10 hours of work.

I had a similar moment recently! I was looking at unreleased areas of fontaine from high-up points (like the water cubes and the large tower [wich maybe is the fortress??]) and realized that all the very high points of the map that were previously available (e.g. the floating island, the nail at dragonspine, the jade chamber) seem like they’re gonna be quickly blown out of the water by fontainian structures. Most of this is because of the elevation, obviously, but it was still cool to think about!

well...its not the first time for Liyue to be submerged by the sea

If ya think about it, it’s kinda like the spiral abyss area where that used to be a mountain top. Fontaine has elevated waterfalls that contain its own ecosystem and remains of a distant past. Refusing to drown they just climbed higher and built something new to live on. Which makes me wonder if that skeleton is actually the remains of a dragon on what used to be a high mountain top.

Archon quest thoughts: After the slow and drawn out sumeru archon acts, these Fontaine quests are incredible. (I loved the sumeru archon quests but I wished there was more excitement.) Fontaine introduces new content, for the first time in a long time, I actually felt something in a quest, I felt happy to play the game. I was amazed by how we helped lyney and navia solve their problems in the span of two archon quests, instead of leaving us hanging in a moment of excitement. Do excited for the next quests!!

There are actually a lot of references to previous floods covering other regions too, it’s the reason inazuma doesn’t have as many islands as it used to

In the history of Teyvat its been hinted several times that there have been major floods in history across the world so it wouldn't only be Fontaine.

If you see something high up, chances are, there is a mechanic to get you up there around the area (like an airship or the water teleporter).

I think instead Fontaine is gonna lower into the ocean then flood other regions but zhongli would most likely crest a gaint geo wall to block the flood

The thing is, Teyvat already is flooding. Some part of Liyue was already covered in water. Part of Mondstadt around the city is also flooded. The spiral abyss door? If I remember correctly from the Unreconciled Star event, it used to be a tip of a really high mountain.
