Martian microbes could add to our arsenal of extremephiles which could be adapted for our needs. Microbes are chemical conversion plants and could have functions to help us operate there and elsewhere. I hope we find some there.

Pretty exciting stuff. As you noted in the video, this discovery could potentially kill two birds with one stone. A deeper understanding of how colonizing Mars could be viable, and a potential spot "close" to home that we could answer one of the most important questions I can think of: are we alone? (Even a microbe sufficiently answers this question)

P.S. The convention sounds like a great event to attend but I live in the Midwest and it also falls on my birthday :(
