Damn brother Ken! Another dime piece! I remember the day. A bright and shinny SoCal day in the Valley in '82. Our BMX gang was setting up a new jump with shovels in hand. Up round the corner came this bright orangish monster! He came up and plowed right through our new jump and wheelies right over the top of the hill with this roaster tail 50+ ft. In length passing his long shadow. "MAICO" was proudly displayed across the tank. That rut that he left remained for years! Tottaly awesome machine here! Thanks to you and all your crew for what you all do for our sport! God bless the Kaplan crew!

the sound brought back memories. my last year racing was 1981 and i won my class on the 490 maico. i also had the 250 maico that i used on tight saturday might track. the 250 had a very easy to control power band where the 490 was different and hard to start. nice video, thanks

Hello Ken and team. Great 1986 Maico Gm. Frame looks great in red but silver is original. The last 86 Models ( from Pfäffingen) are blue. Wonderful Maico .

The only big bore 2 stroke I've ever gotten to ride was a old air cooled maico 490 and it was an absolute stump ripper

I wish you would dyno every 500 you guys have. This way we can actually see the average HP of every 500 brand

When you think about it. The compression release is for if the sump floods you can flush out the sump.

That thing is awesome!! Reminds me of my '87 CR500. Sold when wife was pregnant with first kid. Got a '91 a few years later I want to build into a '93 tribute. Worked at a motorcycle shop in '93 and wanted one so bad.

I'm just thankful to have a new TM Racing 300cc with built engine, AND God graciously gave me a new 2022 Honda CRF450R-S (Twin pipe remake) to get built at XPR Engines...I'll let the MEN ride the 500s...that machine is only meant for me to observe "Moto gods" like yourself! as with all left kicksers i always wondered why ? memories of trail riding and stalling up a steep incline was a pain as it was damm impossible to quick kick it with your left leg, seen fellas do it but i always had to dismount and kick it with my right, i mostly got my fathers hand me down Huskies and he loved the big bore trail bkes so kickin an ol CR390 as a 14/15 year old got old real quick, couldnt imagine stallin a BEAST like this on a hill
