I always wanted to be a doctor but after coming to the USA from I got distracted when in college (I found it unnecessarily boring) and my grades were just not good enough for a US medical school… I didn’t finish college because my parents didn’t want to finance it and I didn’t want any student loans so I left and got a job as a lab technician… I was actually complaining to myself how my pay was “low” but surprisingly I make more than a government school teacher (degree needed) and almost the same as a typical RN and the same as a medical lab tech (degree required.)

I see why so many UK doctors are not satisfied with pay… just after taxes and the student loan deductions, you guys are actually pocketing less money than a Walmart truck driver here in Atlanta georgia… or a master plumber.

IMHO, they need to make the education FREE by leveraging new technology like streaming lectures etc online.

You do get a massive work benefit of a hugely beneficial pension. The NHS contributions are massive compared to most other employers.

Are you a medical consultant though? That’s the UK equivalent to a fully trained attending physician… they start at about £160, 000 BUT their debt burdens are now approaching £200, 000 on average and about 1/4 of them carry almost £300, 000 debt (similar to dentist here coming out of private dental schools.)

Wow the salary is crazy low, that’s why after graduating I’ll want to do my residency in America. 😮
