During my freshman year in college, fall of 1986, we watched this movie in my dorm. I was laughing my head off, and one of my dorm-mates got pissed. He thought it was a legit documentary. There was no Internet, no way to look it up. A guy had taped it off HBO, so we didn't even have the cover of the VHS to consult.

He insisted that Spinal Tap was a legendary band. I tried to explain that it was fiction -- "See, that's Meathead from All in the Family. That guy is Lenny from Laverne & Shirley. Those guys are from Saturday Night Live." The dude thought I was mocking him, and legitimately wanted to fight. He wanted to go outside and actually throw punches. I couldn't stop laughing, and he just kept getting madder.

We don't stay in touch.

"Who's in here? No one...And then in here, there's a little guy! It's a complete catastrophe!" In tears.

The actor playing the manager is brilliant in this scene here. Realistic, understated humor.

Love the use of the term 'complete catastrophe'

He has a point though. That was ridiculous. Thankfully, Nigel is a professional and he will rise above it.

I don't know why, but this to me is the funniest scene in the whole movie. "Why would you keep folding it??"

“Well, why would you keep folding it?” 😂

I love how neat Ian made that folded meat look on the bread at 0:46 before Nigel then insists that now everything needs to be folded and wrecks it. It's another dimension to the amazing acting really in the heat of an improv scene

To this day, every time I buy Spanish olives at the supermarket, I think in my head “look, there’s a little guy.”

Nigel's so determined to find something to complain about and show his power, even if the problem is an olive without its stuffing. Wonderful.

“I’ll rise above it; I’m a professional.” A line I must have quoted a thousand times over the years.

1:11 Ian's expression when he realises what he's dealing with...

Nigel: half minute rant
Manager: so you'd like bigger bread
Nigel: yes

Has this movie lost a single step in 33 years? Nope.

the way guest says "i dont even know where to start" is so subtlety brilliant - his character is clearly looking for a reason to be disgruntled when asked (even though he doesn't actually have one) and acts like there are a million problems when in reality he can't actually nail down a single one. simple shit like that nails the essence of celebrity, where one is so pampered you begin looking for something to be wrong when all is clearly right - part 1 of 110438493843 of why this is a brilliant satire. so great.
