Place a resistor in series with the LED. If you drive a relay, place a diode in parallel with the coil to prevent the back EMF from burning out the timer.

There is a way of calculating the frequency of an astable circuit using a chart called a nomograph and cannot find any explanation of how to do this and would love to see a video with a step by step explanation of how to use this chart.

Thank you for showing the scheme as well. Can i get a frequency of .01 or .002 Hz so that my lamp can burn 1 or 5 minutes. What values are best then? Is an elco okay or is the leakage current too high?
