We can parallel lines with compass and straightedge by creating a pair of congruent corresponding angles on a transversal.

I remembered constructing those in middle school. It was my favorite chapter in the math book.

Option 2 - assuming your straight edge is indeed a ruler, you couls measure the distance between the assigned point and your initial line, mark two additional points on your line and copy the distance of the orthogonal. Make sure the constructed points align with the originally assigned one, boom.


Option 3 - use a triangular ruler :)

What I like about geometry a lot is how many ways there are to get the same result :)
