would strongly recommend NOT using fiberglass insulation on the rim joists in ANY capacity. Fiberglass is vapor permeable meaning moisture/air will pass right through it. Putting plastic up (or paper-faced fiberglass) will help prevent the warm interior air meeting a colder rim joist in the winter months but not best way to prevent moisture, mold/mildew, etc. Recommend putting in foamular foam board in squares on the rim joist it provides a complete thermal break from rim joist to the inside of the home. Makes a big difference for efficiency. I know from experience as i dealt with a shoddy install of plain fiberglass on my rim joists on a brand new custom home we built and had serious mold/mildew and moisture issues around entire home.

Nice video, but I disagree with bat insulation in the rim joist. Bat type insulation only works when enclosed and a stapled vapor barrier is not the best option. Utilized close cell spray foam around the perimeter in the rim joist/sill plate location to get the best results. Plus, installing an interior PVC draintile system with a flange going up the wall about 3 inches above the slab would result in a lifetime waterproofed basement. Lastly, I'm not a big fan of a finished enclosed ceiling in the basement. That really prevents the ability to diagnose and fix potential plumbing issues. Using a drop ceiling or even just spraying the joists and pipes in a matte finish is what I'm seeing a lot of done these days.

The header detail is wrong. The header/rim joist will get wet, and that moisture will be trapped in there by the moisture barrier they installed. That header needs to be able to dry from the inside.

Pre treat below the slab with pesticide and plastic before installing foam board .

Is this a "how to build a mold factory" video?

This man said install 2×6 wood framing are much better but now 2020 after covid-19 a 2×6 cost $15 plus taxes each 🥺

My basement has the floor down already, can I still put up the wall or do I have to rip out the floor first ?

A vapor barrier is needed under the floor slab, beneath the insulation.

This question is for Owens Corning: why not just install Ecotouch Pink Fiberglass insulation directly against the foundation walls?

I would insulate the floor boards before drywalling that ceiling

I cannot find any information at all about insulating the interior basement if you have already 2" foamed the outside of the it okay to foam the inside also, or is this bad to have foam on both sides of the concrete?

How is the gypsum board optional for mineral wool?

DO NOT put Fiberglass, water collecting, where there is air movement.

Vapor barrier on warm inside walls? Is that right?

What about for an existing, unfinished basement where the slab is already poured?

My basement has the original foundation blanket (old layer of pink insulation with vapour barrier) then a framed wall around perimeter of basement approx 6 inches from concrete foundation wall then a second layer of yellow (newer) insulation with its own vapour barrier... basically an insulation sandwich. Was wondering if this is a recipe for disaster and it needs to be ripped out or the double protection is better. I’m in southern Ontario (climate wise). Anyone with experience/thoughts....???

Just spray foam it instead, it's the only way to really deal with basement moisture unless you do ICF.

First !!

Would this work on older houses with cinder blocks?

in my opinion its better to let the basement dry outward not inside unless you want to grow mold
