STOP Ruining Your Guitar Sound! Tone Mistakes You're Making

Stop ruining your guitar sound with tone mistakes guitarists make every day. Believe it or not the guitar components are hyper critical! You have to have an idea of exactly what you want BEFORE you start to build a guitar. Then make it!

This Walnut Claro and Rosewood neck guitar build can give you unbelievable tone. The guitar is completed in this video and played in the next video. I show some of the secrets about the choice of pickups, tone woods, types of tremolo and tuners, and even a new switching unit from Obsidian Wire. And there is a special comment towards the end of the video.

What you will learn:
How to create a great guitar
Improve your tone
Is it worth doing?
How good is it?
My views on some channels
Why I really care less...
Watch the whole video to the end...

I originally set out a number of months ago to make the Warmoth Claro Walnut guitar with its rosewood neck to be a brilliant tone guitar with many specifics to make incredible tones like no other - a tone monster in fact. Most will never show you what I do in this video. So I bought the parts, reviewed each part on my channel and then proceeded to make this video.

I don't go through each step of the build to the last degree simply because I have many videos on my channel showing the procedures. Suffice to say that I did create a great guitar.

gear in the build: Seymour Duncan custom sh-5, Seymour Duncan JB, Seymour Duncan YJM Fury (neck), Obsidian switcher, Fender locking tuners, Gotoh 510 tremolo, Rosewood neck. The neck and body are Warmoth. This is a typical Tony McKenzie review with an important message. The Marshall amps are not in this video. Distortion of the tone is high with these pickups, the Seymour Duncan YJM fury is great, as is the Seymour Duncan sh-5 which will be covered in the playing video.

Towards the end and for a while since my last post I have grown disillusioned about a number of things that I do speak about in my video so what I would say at this point is that I might make more reviews and videos covering a number of subjects, but its less possible that I will create any videos other than what equipment that I have currently and that IS intentional. I do have quite a lot of gear that I have bought for review so there will be 'some' reviews, but who knows how many.

Want to buy one of my guitars? or other reviewed products? Ask me... I am cutting it all back.

It is clear to me that taking the losses of buying the gear, losing money when I sell it and generally getting hit for tax when even no money being made has had an effect on my outlook about video review work and no doubt... I 'might' be back..

PLEASE SUBSCRIBE, RING THE BELL, AND THUMBS UP to give my channel a boost and thank you for watching - I hope the video is enjoyable for you and that you see the things in it that other reviews NEVER show!.

I’ve been watching your vids for years now, love the build videos which have kept me playing and tinkering with guitars at some very bad points in my life.
So much so that I’m the guy who bought your red/yellow Strat with the Toneshaper kit in it some years back! 😊 It’s been passed on to a friend now.
Please keep doing what you do if it’s possible, the government screws us on everything else they ain’t taking the music 🎸🎸
All the best Tony

Please like and subscribe, this guy deserves more subs. You can’t find in depth reviews like he does and I appreciate all the work he puts into it. It’s nice to see the internal workings and build quality of the product in question. So please consider subscribing to his channel to show your support and keep this great content coming.
Thanks so much for your hard work.

Love the guitar you built here in the video! I got a PRS with a solid rosewood neck and ever since I've wanted a strat with a solid rosewood neck. I really like the body you selected too!
Try to not be too disheartened with the way things are. You do have fans that enjoy your content very much!

If you have the budget for it, you just got to try the VegaTrem system. Grief, it is gorgeous. Smooth, slinky and responsive. I've done a coupleof builds with this and it is a bit of a revalation.

Beutiful! A rose wood neck makes a big difference in tone. My favorite for looks and tone. Thanks Tony!

Hi Tony, sorry to hear about you current feelings about the youtube business, you are correct that there are too many people sensationalising average or poor products, which is why we come to you. I hope you can find the motivation to carry on and keep delving deep into the 'guts' of the music business. Miff, Yorkshire.

Beautiful guitar it’s amazing the amount of work that goes into these custom builds when your buying individual parts even from the same manufacturer, that need modification but it makes it interesting, great work 👍

The best way to get a guitar to your own specs and have a pride of ownership that off the wall
and some custom shops will never give you.
Re the current goverment, words fail me, well they don't but i can't use them on here
Best of luck for the future Tony, whatever you decide.just choose your new country with care.😊👍💗

It's over here too Tony. We got one guy that might postpone it, but that's not very encouraging either.

After building several "Fender" guitars, all out of high quality parts, you never really know what they will sound like. I've had several necks and bodies that never sounded great no matter what I did besides ditch them and try a new body or neck in it's place. Some parts sound great together, and some do not.
