This man is absolutely correct, we had three static caravan’s in North Wales over a period of 10 years and they were a money pit, we eventually bought a bungalow for £33, 000 and the running costs were actually lower than the caravan. The caravan life is great and we made a lot of friends but the costs involved are horrendous and it’s too late after purchase because there’s no way out because the caravan is not worth what you owe on it. It’s a lovely way of life if you can afford the cost but consider these costs before getting sucked in and purchasing one because the result can be financially devastating. These sites spin you a line about how it can pay for itself but most of it is bullshit and you won’t leaving you with the debts involved, be careful, very careful.

I love the site I’m on too, it’s the friendships and community, the giggles, laughs and memories we share 😊

People will get wise to this situation, and although the sites need to make a profit, they will need to accept a fairer system or go broke.

If you ever own a static caravan on a rented plot. You need a good solicitor that you can rely on. you can get screwed over as my late father found. He did not give in. He eventually removed it off site himself. It was war with the site owners. We only rent when required in my case.

Great video and well said. There is more to life than financial decisions, we love being in our static and in our community. If you went through life worrying about wasting money we would all wear clothes from Tesco and drive Kia’s.

No been there, done that. NEVER again. Would not recommend buying a static caravan to anyone. Also you maybe told to leave or upgrade when your caravan reaches a certain age which can be upsetting and soul destroying. When this happened to us we couldn't even move to another camp, they all stick together. We gave up and got rid. Best thing we did.

Remove drain cover, drop money down it, replace cover. They are NOT worth bothering about, please seriously think about it, & then think about it again. You will only learn about the true cost in the end.

I paid £48k and was offered £15k 5 years later by the site- sold it privately for £23k - they then took 20% of the sale price!

We paid £25000 for our van in 2015 we sold it back to the site at the end of 2013 we got £2500 the van was in excellent condition, site fees went to £5200 a year on a site with no facilities. So I would say don't trust site owners they are there to get as much money out of you. Iv seen people on our site spend £20000 just on decking. If you are not bothered about losing thousands of pounds then buy a van where your £70000 purchase will be worth nothing in 10 years.

For older people looking to downsize, declutter & just relax for the rest of their years, a caravan home as a primary residence can be a great option. Vs paying the expenses of a standard permanent site-built home. In the US many retirees (pensioners) do this. Unfortunately, site fees average about $7, 000 per year for modest low budget parks & about $13, 000 for nicer parks with social amenities. And site rental fees increase yearly either way, making it difficult for seniors on fixed incomes to live comfortably after just a few years.

We are in our 23 year of static caravan ownership and on our third static caravan, it's definitely a way of life and how you perceive it, it's a very expensive hobby. Having said that we are on an excellent family owed site in Trusthorpe Lincolnshire that is very well run with reasonable fees, non of this your van is too old now business. We have more friends on the site than we would ever have at home and we socialise, have parties and just enjoy life.We can come and go when we please but to us the key is don't treat it like a holiday make it an extension of your home life. It's like most things in life if you can't afford it please don't do it.
site fees £3000PA
Local tax £400PA
Gas bottles £100 each possibly two or three PA
Electric £150 to £200PA
Water- Our water is not metered and is in the site fees.
Insurance £300PA
All the above are approximate costs based on what we pay and remember these costs are year on year and this is after the purchase of your van.
So is it worth it, We think so but you decide.

I had a caravan on ocean edge heysham it was 8 years old I bought it to supplement my retirement 2 years later, the sales man never told me that parkdean have a policy that they do not hire out after caravans are 10 years old I pulled out half way through my contract with black horse finance which you are allowed to do when I found this out, it cost me my live's savings of over 20 grand I ended up with nothing. parkdean are horrendous to deal with. It nearly finished me off.

Do not buy a static. The site owners own you as well. You also pay non domestic rates which you pay VAT on, your £80000 caravan after ten years is worthless because you can't sell it onside. If you sell it before that the site is entitled to a share of the total price.
