**IMPORTANT 2023 UPDATE re: IUD DURATION OF USE- US FDA now approves 52mg levonorgestrel IUD (Mirena, Liletta) for 8 YEARS use for contraception. When treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding is the primary indication, best results are usually seen in the first 5 years. Kyleena (19.5mg) is still 5 years. See video #35 for info on copper IUD extended use.

**New data suggest that the 52mg levonorgestrel IUD may also be effective for emergency contraception.

Thank you so so so much. This really put my nerves at ease. Long story short, I was caught in the perfect storm of exactly where I was in my ovulation cycle and had unprotected sex. Without research into the copper T, I would have NEVER considered getting it put in. I’m thankful I found a Planned Parenthood in my area that is able to get me in right in time. Due to my ovulation cycle, the efficacy of it might have well been 0 for my plan B. You’re so concise in your explanation. More awareness needs to be spread before it’s too late for us.

I had a Skyla IUD for 3 years, but I had it removed about a month ago and decided not to get another IUD, because I’m 46 and my chances of getting pregnant are pretty low. Well, after Roe v Wade was overturned, I went back to my doctor and got a Kyleena IUD inserted, because I didn’t want to take any chances with my options (fortunately I stay in NC)

Can the Mirena have any effects on a patient’s libido at all? I know of several people who noticed a continual decrease in sexual desire even months after insertion. My doc wasn’t sure about this one but I’m really trying to find answers for this

Hi Kristina, thank you so much for posting these very informative videos . I wish you were my gyno.. lol. I’m getting the copper iud Monday 9/25/22, and I’m scared . I’m not a fan of hormones at all, but I had an unexpected pregnancy, and I had an abortion, so I want to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Is the copper t, the same as the regular non- hormone iud ? I’m a little confused
