Levonorgesterol and ethinylestradiol is a combination pill, which is an oral contraceptive pill. Now when an oral contraceptive pill is used as an emergency contraception. Otherwise oral contraceptive pills are a daily contraceptive which is used every day, continuing for a 7 day gap and again 21 days. So this is a regular elective method of oral contraception which is used. But in cases when a person is not on a contraceptive, and you need it to use it as an emergency contraception, then a combination of Levonorgesterol and ethinylestradiol can be used can be used within an hour or 120 or so. 1st dose is taken within 120 hours or so and repeat the second dose after 12 hours of the first dose and the dose is almost 100 microgram of ethinylestradiol and 50 mg of LNG , that is Levonorgesterol. So it depends on what does the contraceptive pill the patient is having. So based on that 2 or 3 or 4 pills of the pill can be used to get a sum of 100 microgram of ethinylestradiol and 50 mg of LNG.
