How does Manchester City's Pep Guardiola improve his players?

The Rondo, a humble training drill, has been a crucial part of the team’s improvement over the last two years. It is an encapsulation of Pep Guardiola’s coaching philosophy, a conduit through which his basic principles are channelled onto the pitch.

Pep is a brilliant manager, however, I believe it's his player recruitment that makes him so good. No other manager can find a player so suited to his style which then not only improves the player but makes his philosophy so much better.

What people don't realise is that while many clubs do the rondo, they do it with a lot of flicks tricks and such without focusing on the body position, the anticipation and the tactical side of it. The reason that peps teams are miles ahead any other side is because pep, Cruyff and even van gaal at ajax and Bayern focus on that and use it to its fullest so the play is better and it improves players tactically. It isn't used as a basic warm up drill but as a proper means of developing the basics of positional play(Cruyff, guardiola, Michael laudrup, van gaal, Michels, Quique setien, etc.'s philosophy)

In Catalonia I used to play Rondos with my friends when I was child. I thought it was a basic football game everywhere. We played it specially when we had no goals or if we were to lazy to run for a normal match.

This channel has taught me so much. I understand why some teams play with such fluidity and are able to win the ball back so quickly/ keep possession in tight spaces. One of my top channels for 2018.

I have immense gratitude for this channel. Keep the technical videos coming.

As a life long Real Madrid fan, i have nothing but respect for pep, he is the guy who i admired alot in the coaching world, one of the geniuses, i've always said back when he was in barcelona, that while he is there, it's gonna be nearly impossible to stop them, so i was happy that he left, but also liked the idea of being able to enjoy his beautiful football in a different club than Barca

It's such a good training exercise that Barcelona still use the drill no matter which coach or what style of football.

I played football all my life in Spain, and since Guardiola finished the first season winning 6 titles every team of all divisions, start to play rondos in the start of training. It becomes a tradition as nowadays and seems like that in the future. As an other similar possesion exercises i used to think players like pedri weren't becomes as good is today at age of 17

Great video. But you should have spoken about the other drills he uses as well. I've read pep confidential and pep Guardiola the evolution and there is a huge emphasis on the third man combination, the 7v7 and the 10v10. The rondo is obviously massive but the these drills were crucial to help the Bayern players and man city players now understand and implement positional play

Since watching this video we've been implementing the Rondo in every soccer practice; before practice and after practice. Our player have been much sharper. Thank you
