I love Judy’s version, but Ella is undeniably smooth and perfect. She manages to make me question which version is better, but Ella does deliver the sorrow, the blues. There is no comparing the two. They’re both equal and perfect.

Have you ever heard a voice so beautiful it was almost unbearable? That is ELLA. WOW. WOW. WOW.

She owns anything she sings. One of a kind.

Classic Ira Gershwin lyric will live forever. Arlen did the music at the request of Garland in the 1950's for her CinemaScope remake of "A Star is Born" - Ella never too comfortable with overly dramatic content of some material nails this. Garland and Fitzgerald differed in so many ways. Garland's near near shattered vocals were so far removed from the inner warmth/heartbrake of Ella. Thank you all and let's not forget Billy May - never really at home when i the material wasn't toe tappin' and brass laden - pulls this one off---- Garland, Fitzgerald and May meet Ira and Harold a royal convention

The studio orchestras accompanying Ella on all the songbook albums are fabulous -- so tight; this one conducted and arranged by Billy May.

I cant get this song out of my head, , started with listening and watching Megan Mullaly doing in Will and Grace, , a very painful so long, , I knew she was talented but the version done by her its right on the ranks with Judy and Ella..sorrow pain and farewell, , , wow

This is beautiful, of course, and I love the mellower arrangement. Ella Fitzgerald is def a stunning vocalist. But the song was created for Judy to sing in "A Star is Born" and meant for her in every way. And the way Judy sings it is untouchable and cannot be imitated.

Ella is excellent as always, but the definitive version has to be Judy Garland's?

Pretty good, but Harold Arlen only composed the music. Ira Gershwin wrote the lyrics, so she could've easily included this on the Gershwin Songbook album.

What would Helen Morgan have made of this song?

Judy Garland did it first, and got deeper inside it than Ella, but her voice was not Ella's equal. No one's voice is, nor will ever be.

I still prefer Judy's version, but this is different and stunning.

I like this version-Ella is always good-and I like Barbra Streisand's-but this song will always belong to the great Ms. Garland.

Voice fabulous as always, but I don't think this arrangement suited the song at all.
