We hope you have a strong stomach for these STRANGEST foods from around the world. From crazy crustaceans you can only get across the world to middle American oysters that are not what they appear, these are the strangest, grossest, just downright different foods from around the world!

If you’ve seen our food lists you know that we find the biggest and best food items out here, but for this list we have the weirdest global foods that you’ve likely never tried before. While some sound strange but are very common (like fried brain sandwich or tuna eyeball) other foods on this list are much more rare and equally as strange. Ever heard of Kopi Luwak? This expensive coffee is rare and come directly from the stomachs of Civets. Fugu, which we have shared with you before, is also expensive and strange because of the strict laws and rules about how to prepare the pufferfish to insure you don’t kill anyone. Get ready to feel your mouth water (or maybe feel a little nauseous) with these strange foods from around the world. Make sure to leave us a comment letting us know which food made the biggest impression on you and letting us know what list you’d like to see next!

While many people around the world rely on insects for a delicious meal (like Escamole, stinkbugs, Casu Marzu, and Mopane) some of the dishes on this list are substantially more rare. Have you ever thought to eat a bird’s nest? What about fermented seafood - Hakarl (basking shark), Surstromming (herring), and Lutefisk (stockfish) - are fermented feasts that may have never crossed your mind. While some of these foods may be strange because of how they are cooked, there are a number of items on this list are strange because they are eaten alive - like drunken shrimp, sannakji or Nakji (octopus), Yin-Yang fish (fish fried while alive), and Ikizikuri (living filleted fish). Are these items enough to turn your stomach? Well make sure to keep watching all the way to the end to see which of these weird meals make our top 10!

my ex is a Greek, when he visited my mom here in the states, he was shocked to realise why i was such a meat eater. she served meat of 1 sort or another 3 times a day! in Greece they were considered wealthy if they could afford meats once a day!

I've had a few on this list and some variations thereupon, but one you didn't mention that used to be a relatively common food in the U.S. is beef tongue. It needs to be cooked in a pressure cooker, then sliced and usually served as a sandwich meat. The texture is unusually smooth (except for the taste buds on the skin of the tongue.

Pickled pigs feet used to be cheap and popular, too. The best ones are meaty.

Coming in last on my list of suggestions is a three-parter called tripe. It's three because of the three cow stomachs. Blanket tripe looks like a blanket; honeycomb tripe (the favorite) looks like a (rather wet) honeycomb; and bible tripe looks, smells, and tastes like it's rather inedible (which is true; it's pretty bad). Tripe should be boiled for a little while so the membrane can be peeled or stripped off it. Usually tripe is then bleached/blanched to take away the coloration that more delicate people find kind of gross. Always remember to rinse it over and over again to get the grit out and the stuff that makes the rinsing water discolored; then simmer it for hours to make it tender.

guess I shouldn't have been eating when I decided to watch this. Oh well, I got through it.

...things just shouldn’t be eaten alive, it’s just cruel. There’s a kind of rough justice of choking on a live octopus. I’m Scottish, not vegetarian and never eaten haggis, thought of it just gives me the boke! Btw, I thought puffins were endangered so are protected. Maybe just in the U.K.?

In Jr. High, on a dare, ate chocolate covered ants, and caterpillar. Cover anything in chocolate it'll be edible.

I enjoy a brain sandwich every year. Although it does require driving to the Evansville Indiana Fall Festival. But it's worth the drive!

I've had Rocky Mountain oysters. Oddly enough they do taste like fried oysters. There used to be a festival celebrating these in Butte Montana. If it's still going on somebody can correct me. Maybe Do a list of the 25 most unusual food festivals.

As much as some of these disgust me especially stink bugs, at least the people know exactly what they're eating & where it came from...

*Looks at box my breakfast came out of* I can't say the same.

Why did I watch this on an almost full stomach? Why? Oh why? Well, my stomach isn't full anymore. Thank God for the trash can next to my recliner. Thank you List 25 for enabling me to drop my cookies....actually dinner.

There are people that eat stink bugs?! I hate those things, we recently in Italy had an increase of stink bugs from China, those are brown while those native to Italy are green. Now that autumn approaches they search for a place to spend the winter. Don't know how they are getting inside the house but almost every evening we find one just flying around the ceiling light. It's not easy to catch them because one wrong move and they will spray their stinky smell. Believe me, it takes at least 12 hours to get the smell out of the room.

I've had haggis every Robert Burns in January and at our yearly highland Games and Celtic Festival..and I do live in the States, so yeah, it's the watered down version they call haggis here in the States.

Rocky mountain oysters. My Dad and I were eating them. He didn't tell me what they were until after we were done. That explains why some people around us were giving opposite comments from 'how can you to I got set for you (gross man)'.

Now what is wrong with Haggis? Depending on how it is prepared, it is very tasty. If you don't like the taste, well that is why they invented whiskey.
