Will an F-Zero game come to Switch? Takaya Imamura, producer of F-Zero GX, said that Nintendo needs a Grand Idea to set the next F-Zero on the right track, and we at Fanatix Four believe we have the best idea for a perfect F-Zero game for Switch. Check out our ideas and let us know how you'd enjoy this game featuring Captain Falcon, Black Shadow and the rest of the crew with traditional racing as well as action and beat-em-up gameplay in the futuristic Mute City. What do you think? Let's talk about it!

What are your ideas for an F-zero game? In what was does its identity need to change or stay the same for Nintendo to successfully bring it back?

A time where whole videos are dedicated to F-Zero again. It's like a dream came true. I hope this won't die out. We have to be loud about this franchise. It must be totally clear to Nintendo that we NEED a new F-Zero.

Nintendo: “we don’t know what to do with F-Zero without a grand new idea”

me: “that’s a funny way to spell bullshit”

This is what I been saying about F-Zero for awhile now:
Make it have Collision Based Combat. No weapons, no items. The basic "your vehicle can do special maneuvers that could be used to 'attack' and 'damage' other racers" setup. We saw something like this in the Speed Racer movie videogame and in Asphalt 9.

After that, make the controls MORE skill based. Where there is different levels of drifting, dashing side to side and, importantly, AIR control when you go off big ramps. Imagine you go off a ramp and then you have to spin your car 90 degrees and then dash to the side to plant yourself on the side of a wall or a sideways track (a "wallplant" if you will).

A skill based driving system and a more "collision attack" based combat system is all it really needs to not be Mario kart. Have Mario kart be the "kiddy game" that everyone can play and make F-Zero more for the skill-based more capable players which has a higher door to entry. As in, make mario kart the EASY game and make F-Zero the CHALLANGING/hard game.

I try not to use the term stunts but there is ALOT of moves F-zero could do with it's cars. Spinning, dashing, jumping, slamming down. Like imagine someone tries to do a side dash into you to attack but you dodge it by jumping and then pressing the slam button to slam down ontop of them since they are now ontop of you. Imagine all the possibilities of how you can design a track when you give the car movesets. Like imagine different track pieces behave differently. I could think of a Ratchet and Clank grind rail that you can drive on where turning makes you spin around it like a Mario galaxy cylinder planet. I can imagine random lighting coming off the pole that you would have to dodge by turning to drive under/around the pole. From here, you can then have the pole lead to a track where you could be driving under the pole or above it, meaning you could drive on the bottom side of the road when the grind pole ends or the top side. The track itself could be slightly transparent so you could actually see the racers who are on the other side of the track from you.

It's these little map gimmicks that could make for some REALLY interesting map designs which could then influence the mechanics of what the cars can do. A feedback loop of influencing design.

Awesome video and awesome breakdown of the F-Zero situation. Let’s hope they do something sooner than later!

I've heard this idea before and I really don't think that's a good idea for this franchise. In a perfect world where F-Zero is a giant system seller à la mario or pokemon this would be the obvious continuation for the series but we don't live in this parallel universe and it's definitely not what the franchise needs in its current state.

It's not a bad idea in and of itself but it's extremely unrealistic to expect such a huge project from a series that has been dormant for almost two decades (Next year will be the 20th anniversary of GX can you imagine?). Such a project would require enormous production costs, an open world game focused on combat and exploration, with a finely tuned driving and racing system on top of it, and all of that up to todays standards for a franchise which was never huge in the first place? No one would ever want to take such a risk, even I, as a die hard fan of F-Zero would never greenlight something like that if I was a Nintendo exec.
The other problem is that it's all over the place, there's too much elements to it and it wouldn't flow very well together. Reviving F-Zero first through a classic racing game then making a separate bounty hunting/beat'em up game centered on Captain Falcon would be a better move.

The series may have been dormant for 20 years but it had more than enough time to establish an extremely solid formula and after such a long gap it would be counterproductive to deviate so much from it when an entire generation never even had the chance to try it out.

The New F-Zero being a dedicated racing game is not a problem as the playerbase barely overlaps with Mario Kart's and the series occupates a very different niche in Nintendo's catalog.
That niche being the difficulty and skill based gameplay, this isn't a casual game for the little nintentoddlers, this is a game for people who want a challenge, people who want to show they are the best pilots out there and feel good doing it, and that's exactly what a new entry in the series should expand upon, instead of adding half assed features that have barely anything to do with the true essence of F-Zero.

F-Zero has always been a solo experience and your skill has always been measured against CPU opponents, so the logical evolution of this formula and something the franchise could never do back in the days is to make it a player versus player experience.
Hardcore gaming nowadays is all about honing your skills against other people all over the globe. And F-Zero lends itself perfectly to this new philosophy of gaming.
Refine GX gameplay, add 30 players online grand prix with no respawns, a leaderboard with a ranking system and push the game hard as an esport as there is a clear lack of racing games in the scene. It could easily become the next big thing if it's impressive enough to watch and enticing enough to play, which wouldn't be too hard looking at GX.
Make it really flashy with exagerated collision effects, and slow mo replay of crashes, a really solid spectator mode, etc... (think about what smash ultimate did with zoom effects and high moments but for F-Zero)
Add a comic book styled cell shaded coat of paint to all of that and bring back all the characters from X while redesigning them slightly and you got yourself the perfect F-Zero revival material, it brings in new people because it's flashy and would speak to todays hardcore demographic but it also stays true to what F-Zero has always been.
And the greatest thing about that idea is that they could just base it of off GX and cut a huge part of the production costs since most of the new ideas wouldn't be too hard to implement.
Also use Captain Falcon's image a lot for the marketing and you're sure to sell this game really well.

This is the grand new idea F-Zero needs, low risk high reward, grand yet realistic, so grand in fact that it could easily skyrocket the popularity of the franchise if handled correctly.

I've always loved the idea of adventure racing games since I first played diddy Kong racing so I think it would be a great opportunity for f zero to do something similar

I think infusing F-Zero with Yakuza would be great. Classic racing with free roam action adventure and quirky mini games.

very smart way to make this series work, i’ve always thought they needed to explore the world and lore more as well. Maybe they could even use their vehicles in the overworld just to get around

F-Zero is prime for spin-off material. Have a beat’em up that feels like a modern version of Captain Commando but its F-Zero. It was would help a LOT if during F-Zero’s comeback, a character from the series and/or Mute City (Melee) get added into Smash Bros.

Should I be offended that you didn't hit me up prior to making this video? That's like making a Pokemon video without Charleston Zardsworth III or a Mario Maker video without Bahb. Yep, I'm offended 😒

I think you have a slight misunderstanding about what nintendo means when they say "new ideas". Modern day nintendo doesn't care about story. What they want is new and original mechanics to show that they are "innovative" or some other crud. When they have that, they then slap a very lite and shallow narrative on top of that. And I specifically mean narrative, not story. I say that because stories are full of big events and moments. A narative is just the "back cover plot". A narative is "bowser kidnapped princess peach, go save her" or "Gannon is taking over hyrule, go stop him".

Basically, they only do premise and not much else, because the only thing they care about is mechanical design. Everything else to them is just flavortext. If an idea is revolving around narrative design more so than designing new mechanics, then you already failed the pitch meeting in their eyes. What I mean is, what they want is an idea where you can play it as like an alpha "proof-of-concept" build, and take the story and narrative out completely, if there is something revolutionary in what you have left, that will be the thing that they are after. Classic example is how Splatoon started out as colorless tofu cubes. For them, it's not about the "experience" of the game, it's the "play" of the game. Every 2D Mario had a new power up. You got to play with that new power up. That kind of thinking is exclusively how nintendo operates, for better or worse.

Sony is the exact opposite, their only focus is blockbusters where they will gladly give you a walking simulator of being a package boy so long as it's cinematic enough.

Imagine if Nintendo were shadow developing a new F-Zero with Shin'en and then drop it just like that at E3 in a couple of months. I'd loose my f*in mind!
Never played the series, but I love to watch GX videos on YouTube. I want a new game like that so bad. Loved Fast Racing Neo from Shin'en too.

We absolutely NEED a story mode in a f zero game where captain falcon actually is in some bounty hunter action and he uses his falcon punch and falcon kick and "show me your moves!"

Ah yes my favorite nursery story, the little falcon who couldn’t fail

ok, can I just say, while I will buy it either way, they need to make the next f-zero game, A RACING GAME, they can add the in-machine combat like in death race mode, but having captain falcon leave the machine and falcon punch things, it may be closer to his smash interpretation, but it wouldn't do f-zero justice. It'd be more like star fox adventures or metroid prime federation force, except replace the 6 year wait with a 17 year one. They should definitely do different things with the racing though, I'd love to see the death race mechanics fleshed out more. And I want the best of both worlds for f-zero story. I want one more focused around the grand prix then actual bounty hunting, but with a good mix of both, it'd probably mix in with his bounty hunting life, but put the grand prix first. And obviously very centered around captain falcon, though it would be great if we got to see him have friends or characters he can interact with. And while I do want it more focused around the Grand Prix, I don't want it sacrificing any story elements, and definitely not the supreme cheese that was GX's story. It should be just as hard as before though. As how the different races and levels are presented... idk, an overworld where you play as falcon, or just mission based like GX and GP legend would both work. Though I think I'd put the other characters for the story mode, to only be playable after the main story's beaten

Hear me out. A Star Fox F Zero crossover. Starlink had space exploration and racing. Do it like that. I feel like they could blend so well.

I'm craving an open world 3rd person action adventure with beat em up gameplay and maybe some 3rd person shooting involved as the captain does have a side arm in smash... sprinkle on some light rpg elements, lots of fast racing, bounty hunting, rival bounty hunters... all in a gritty futuristic city scape ala blade runner.

It would be cool if a hypothetical story mode could have cut scenes in the style of a comic book, think of the way Into the Spiderverse is animated.

What Id do, instead of lessening the speed and such to make it more accessible (as frame-perfect gameplay and extreme skill requirement has always been a series staple of the franchise), I would go pretty much the exact opposite route. Keep the 2000 kmph speeds but turn it into not just a racing game but an all out high speed madhouse death race. Cars furiously slamming each other around at literally the speed of sound. Sparks flying everywhere constantly as people get thrown all over the place.
