What Is Lent?

While Christmas may be more popular than Easter, from a theological perspective Easter is the most important Christian holiday; it is the commemoration of Christ’s glorious resurrection, upon which all Christians rely for their salvation. Lent is the sacred season leading up to Easter, the time during which many Christians seek to better their lives and increase their devotion to God. I'm sick so I cannot do lent very strictly but I am giving up caffeine as much as possible. And I'm also vegetarian already. I hope it helps me.

Also maybe it was just where I lived, but as a Catholic in addition to giving up something specific, we also gave up all non pescatarian meat, with Friday being the only day of the week we allowed to eat it. Other families I knew only gave up red meat, but my family went hard in the paint lol

Lent is NOT about giving up sweets, or favorite foods. It's really about getting closer to our Lord spending more time in reading our Bible . We tend to focus more in giving something up then giving more time to our Lord. Yes giving up something I good but don't make that your main focus or stress about it. God knows your heart. Fasting or reading your Bible every day is a good start.

When I was a Catholic and Presbyterian we weren’t told to give up anything but alcohol and meat. It works different for different cultures and denominations but those ones are most common and well known.
