In my real world experience most people in this country are earning between R5k and R9k per month. I don't know where you are getting this average of R25k per month. People in this country are HORRIBLY under paid, that's if your lucky enough to even have a job!

I hate "averaging" because it doesn't give a real representation of our realities. Most people in Mzansi don't even clear R10k.

Sipho and Jaco get R10 000 each a month and Leroy get 90 000 a month so the average salary is R33 333 a month

I work in data analytics, and see thousands of salaries and payslips per year no way is the average 23000...from what I've seen its R10000 - R6000. Also to mention the minimum wage is less than R7000 pm, Most South Africans do not have a tertiary qualification, plus the unemployment, the poverty, and inflation...Long story short this is just middle-class bubble conversation.

This is no reflection of the South Africa where some of us live. Where basic is less than R5500

Average vs median is the important thing here

Remove R50 000+ salaries from the equation and work on that average.
It's more realistic.

The average is high because of the few high earners in SA not to say that the average person in SA earns R26k/month. I think the ordinary person (security, cleaners, etc) earns less than R6k/month.

That lady (Boni) often show payslips of the extreme high earners in those particular industries which is distorted. Anomalies are not representative of the majority.

The sad thing is, a teacher with 30 years experience is earning around the average salary.

75% of the employed population earn less than R5800 according to BMR. With 55.5% of the total population living below the upper-bound poverty line of R1335 a month and 13.8% live below the food poverty line of R624 a month. According to the Economic Justice and Dignity Group.

Averages are misleading. Paint the picture of one of the most unequal societies in the world as is.

This economic structure is not sustainable. And it will crumble. People will lose a lot thinking they are protecting riches by excluding others from mainstream economic participation.

Feels like the Matrix trying to paint a happy image of everything being fine and everyone being happy when people are low-key slaves in their own country.

We need to take it by industry, retailers earn about R5000-6000, call center agents maybe R6000-8000, what about bank tellers? Cleaners who don't even earn R4000
