I Took My Service Dog to the Airport and Here's What Happened

Alright folks—this is your reminder: let your dog pee on real grass before heading into the airport.

Yeah, airports have “pet relief areas,” but let’s be honest...
✖️ They’re gross
✖️ They smell
✖️ Half the time, it’s fake turf covered in other dogs’ mess

Unless your dog’s trained for it, they’re probably not going to go. That means they’re holding it ‘til the flight—or worse, letting it go on the flight.

✅ Take the time, find real grass, and give them a chance to go.
Better out here than in the air.

I don't fly, but my English Mastiff service dog is taking the train with me to my aunt's house. Her last chance to pee before getting on the train is a strip of grass between the parking lot and the train platform. Then she has to hold it for 3.5 hours.

I work at an airport. I once saw a guy walking his dog and the dog was just leaving a trail of piss as he walked. Guy didn’t even stop to clean it so people just keep walking by stepping on piss.

😢 that poor yellow lab at the end had cancer they found out when taking it to the vet after that peeing video. They put it down after that.

When I went to Germany- i think we flew into Frankfurt and there were actual signs not to let your dogs go potty outside on the grass..i had never seen that before - showed figure with a guy walking dog with a line thru it 😂

I hope this sounds right. I have had a female Cane Corso service dog for 3 years now. She's a normal dog to me. Thanos is still impressive but the shock isn't the same.

Avoid putting dogs in the cargo hold if possible.
I worked baggage handling, and all dogs I saw were terrified by all the noises in the baggage terminal. They were shaking, and pissing themselves. Furthermore your dog could die from hypothermia if the pilots don't turn on heat in the baggage hold. Never heard it happen, but I know it will happen.

Great advice. I try to find a place when we get close to the airport or anywhere I know we will be a long time. Bella won’t even walk on the fake grass and she smells it and immediately puts the brakes on looking at me like. Please don’t make me go potty on this.

I called these people out on facebook and I was blocked … this dog has no vest … this man is working the system . Put the dog in the cargo hold like the rest of the pups . This entitlement is getting out of hand . They won’t answer questions about the disabilities of the man and why he needs a cane corso in first class with him ? It’s easy, it’s money, this is all monetized . Stop misleading people on social media .

We have had our Cane for almost 2 years now. Great family member super lovey but No matter what I have tried, he always wants to eat anyone that comes to the house or near us in public. We have tried guests offering treats & toys but he goes into super protect mode. I can't have my family with me when I take him to the vet or he is overly aggressive towards anyone who comes near my wife and son. I guess my question is, what would you suggest to mitigate this behavior.
