Woodpecker Working On House, Santa Rosa, California - C0141

2/23/2022 - As we walked along Woodley Pl in the neighborhood of Oakmont in Santa Rosa, California, we stopped to watch a woodpecker (and for a moment his friend) pecking away near the front window of a resident's home.

Last year an acorn woodpecker managed to fill the walls of a California home with 700 lbs of acorns. Whe the walls were cut open the acorns poured out like coins from a slot machine.

This is the Acorn Woodpecker. It stores acorns in the holes it drills.

Heartwarming woodpecker story: So, in Big Bear California there used to be a really cool place named “CHADS” where my band played for many years. In the back parking lot, behind the bar, there was a 3-story house where all the bands would stay for the weekend. Every morning this little woodpecker would start doing “construction” right outside my bedroom window at 5am. I would get so frustrated because *nothing blocks out the sound of a woodpecker by your bedroom window!* 😂 but, He was there for years and I started looking forward to seeing him! One weekend my heart was crushed when I noticed he never showed up. I waited and waited, and cried when I had to go back home. I never thought I would see him again. Fast forward to 5 weeks later on my way back up the mountain to Chads again. I was so anxious and hopeful to see my friend that I drove as fast as I could… and there he was!
Only this time he had a baby with him! 😭 ❤

Thats why vinyl siding is the best way to go. No painting, no bugs, no rot, no woodpeckers. Wash it once a year and forget it

My dad’s recipe to fill in Woodpecker holes: 1/2 sawdust, 1/2 wood glue. When it drys- paint. He called it “beak shatter”.

Plot twist, the other holes are from the homeowner trying to shoot the bird and missing repeatedly.
