Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a crucial technique in genetic manipulation. This "artificial DNA replication" amplifies the number of DNA molecules for further study or processing. This is important as we need a big enough initial stock to ensure we can get good/viable/visible results in the end or perhaps enough to repeat the same experiment again. Here we will discuss the details of the process.

When the free nucleotides pair up, does the primers remain bound? Or do they leave allowing free nucelotides to bind to the part of DNA it has left exposed?

second - i have a question about the third step (synthesis of DNA) - do the 2 strands join together by DNA polymerase or Taq Polymerase? (dna polymerase is whats mentioned in my text book)
