I'm glad that BuzzFeed/PeroLike is talking about Puerto Rico. We feel neglected here. We need change and to have that, we need awareness. Please, keep making videos like this, thank you.

This made me cry... My island is in a huge amount of debt and we are being forced to go back to the goverment structure of PR on the 1920's (La Junta de Control Fiscal) which is based on the Law Jones that said that the US had all of our goverment power in there hands because of our economy... And when we asked to be a state they declined, the first time, the second and third they just didn't bother answering because its better for them to just fuck around with us when they please just like we were his mistress, but they take about 30% of our taxes for their own well being whilst they drink asprin for their headaches, a puertorrican medicine, they take away the minute its made to the states so it can be shipped back and be bought by the community twice the price... Our time is now and we need our independence we can just wait for something (becoming a state) thats never going to happen #ElCambioViene

My father was drafted back in 1968 to the Vietnam War. Puerto Rican men have been pushed to the front lines before others, please research this.

It was sad learning about all of this on my recent trip to Puerto Rico. Just a beautiful place with beautiful culture. I hope you all get liberated one of these days.

This brings me tears. The island all my family grew up in; with such poverty and being so undermined by the United States.

Lets not forget that also many of our people have died in war for them and we still have no rights.

It's true everything that he says in the video. However, there is more to it, because The U.S. is not and will not abandon Puerto Rico and, in a way, it has shown the Puerto Rican people how the government shall function and to maintain that functionality. Puerto Rico may not have the right to vote for President of the United States, but any Puerto Rican citizen can run for President of the United Sates according to the constitution. If Puerto Rico wants to become a States of the United States and the People makes that choice with transparency, then good for the People, but in reality, Puerto Rico don't need to become a States of the United States and what it needs is to run the government with dignity and respect and also fight the United States to eliminate the Jon's Act so Puerto Rico can prosper on her own.

My family was born in PR. My uncle went to college there and got a degree, but since he didn't get his degree up here he had to teach elementary school instead of high school.

I'm glad this is being acknowledged. The mistress analogy was spot on. Mi isla se esta falling apart. Tenemos que ver cambio; la verdad es que Puerto Rico es una isla bellisima y preciosa con mucha cultura, pero esta corrupta y en deuda. Algo tiene que cambiar.
