One of Ringo's best moments in the Beatles. John was so right to let him sing it. In the last chorus, I can't really tell whether his voice is cracking or if he's tearing up. If the latter, I'm sure it's because he was thinking of his own little boys at home.

my dad used to sing me and my older brother to sleep with this song. im in a bad place right now and was trying to find a version of it that was only the vocal track, to feel like he was singing to me again. the best i was expecting was a cover by an american, which wouldn't have worked cause dad has an english accent, too. finding this really was beyond hope. i cried listening. this kind of thing isn't at all what you did this for, im sure, but i wanted you to know that this thing you did over a year ago has made me very happy in a very personal way. thank you.

When I first heard this on the White Album I actually thought it was Paul singing.
Highlighting the vocal like this is kind of like looking in a high magnification mirror, it highlights the blemishes and imperfections.
