I’m SO glad I found your channel 😭👏🏾 I graduate with my BA in less than a week and I start my Master’s program in January. I cannot wait to binge watch all your videos over Winter Break. So happy to finally see another Black woman doing videos on academia. ❤️

Even though I have been done with my PhD for five years, I really wish I knew about that first point - shifting your mindset from undergrad study to how things run in grad school. I was still using study techniques from undergrad and so I struggled. I definitely wised up later on in my degree but oh the headache this knowledge would have saved me!

Great video!

Grad school is not no joke!! I finish up my MBA in two more weeks and I am super ecstatic about it. your advice to students it top notch. Some things I have learned that is essential for students to understand is as follows:

1) Time Management is essential!! for my particular MBA in Business of Administration it was online and I can stress to students enough you must look over your syllabus and pay attention to deadlines and make sure you are starting on your assignments early because not only do those deadlines come up quickly, but the projects have multiple parts and they are going to take you longer to complete so make sure you give yourself enough time so that you can do the project correctly and finish in time. For my projects I had a lot of papers to write and I had projects where I had to do balance sheets, and income statements, which consisted of so many calculations that must be correct in order to make a proper business analysis.

2) Pay attention in class and attend the lectures because you will come across some professors that are very vague about assignments and projects make sure you ask question so that you understand what you need to do.

3) you are your own advocate in grad school, you must be proactive in your own learning if you do not know something ask questions because the teacher will not check up on you. You have to make sure that you are on the same page as everyone else.

I am going to be applying for grad school once applications open this fall and I am so glad I found your channel. I clicked on this video mostly expecting some generic advice that would have been easy to extrapolate or research on my own, but was pleasantly surprised when my hypothesis was disproven.
I'm going to make sure to watch your other videos to help me prepare for applications since I haven't really been this nervous about something since applying to undergrad in high school.

I completely agree with the mindset change! I don't experience it as much myself since my undergrad was pretty focused, but I see a lot of my peers struggle with that. It's always great to find youtube videos that help you focus-in and recognize the most important things in grad school life ❤️

YESSS chileee. I am in my second year of my dual masters program at Syracuse and I definitely want to share my thoughts on my experiences but I just didn't know if people would be interested to even know my experiences. You just motivated me to just go ahead and share because people may be able to get some perspective on the situation. Thanks for sharing!

Such a great video! So true about figuring out if you want to quit because grad school no longer aligns with the life you want or if you’re wavering due to imposter syndrome and fear of failure. I’m just glad I didn’t teach as a Master’s student. Learning the soft skills before adding on teaching responsibilities as a PhD students was so essential to my grad school experience.

Thank you for this video. I had the imposter syndrome in the first week, and I had flashes of it sometimes- but then the difficulty of the modules and the collective groans of my classmates convinced me that we are all struggling. My question is "How important are grades in grad school?" I understand that grades in undergrad are important for entry into grad school, but what about in grad school?

Thank you for sharing. I pulled three all nighters this semester which is my first semester. I did learn that I can write better at night than during the day. So you’re spot on that you do learn something new about yourself.

I'm so happy that I found your channel. I graduated with my BA in Sociology, and I plan to go back to get my Master's degree and become a college professor. So I'm prepared to watch your videos to get a better idea of what to do.

What you said on the video was really spot-on. I am currently taking my master's degree while having a full time job. The impostor syndrome is real, so is the part of knowing about yourself better. I start to feel that grad school has taken over my life completely so that i can't even find a balance. Glad to know that i am not alone and the tips that you give really help me to overcome this situation. You are such an inspiring woman. Greeting from Indonesia 🇮🇩 with love ❤️

I am a U.S. Air Force Veteran now International (Black American) student at a UK University, I have returned to University for a career change. I will graduate this Summer 2021 with my degree BSc Accounting and Finance at age 36 (will turn age 37 this year). My Undergraduate was absolutely a struggle for me (including I had to repeat three classes from my Year 2).

So listening to you it seems the Master's degree will be more for me. I am planning to do MSc in Forensic Accounting at another UK University which I am very excited about this subject, I want my next career to be a Forensic Accountant.

Thank you for sharing your experience and insight. I have subscribed to your channel. Date Stamp: 23june21
