I have an theory: she was probably pregnant, and went in labor the same day the mother of the guy was, but unlike her, her child died at birth. Being mentally unstable, and filled with shock, she refused to accept reality and made up a scene were her child was stolen from her by the doctors, and given away to another family. Being pregnant when she entered the hospital, the guard at the nursery probably thought she was there to see her child, soo let her in, and soo that's were she fell on a beautiful baby boy with her same golden hair and brown eyes, to whom she then believed was her stolen child. That's when the obsession began.

this boys crazed “real mother” had lost a baby a few years back and kept going back to the hospital to see if she
could find a baby that looked like her previously lost son. she found this boy and was happy because she thought her baby boy was reincarnated as this new born. and she went crazy because in her head, she had now lost her baby twice. and she didn’t want pity so she set out on her own to find him, and when she did she became so attached to him she just felt the need to have him. and that’s why she drove herself mad obsessing over someone else’s baby. she could have also been infertile and needed a baby but she did not meet adoption requirements

Theory
She killed a lady that looks like her that didn’t really have friends or anything, to get her message out about the missing boy, and to give her more free reign to find him
Edit: also maybe she had a miscarriage or something? The grief might’ve messed her up
