I appreciate his willingness to give an interview. The guy sounds traumatized by the turnover and turbulence where he worked. He also sounds a little paranoid (25% infiltration). This doesn't surprise me at all given the rapid growth of this company and the resultant level of chaos as they try to do difficult things very quickly. I hope that Elon and the other employees avoid burnout. Tesla's achievements so far have been amazing.

90% of the work gets done by 10% of the the workers... something I dealt with in my engineering career.

I have a TINY company in comparison to Tesla - and guess what? Listening to this... it sounds EXACTLY what I have faced and experienced on several occasions, when implementing a growth phase. While the "panic" is not nice - for anyone in the organisation - it's true life... I believe Tesla will survive and will prosper. Lots to learn, and much to change - but the prognosis is positive.

You need to interview someone who works on the line

I worked @ Tesla too, Delivery dept. His experience is very common in that company. I resigned before I could get cut from that roster. Going to work there and not knowing if you'll make the cut, was silly. I'm much happier as an entrepreneur. 👍🏽😎👍🏽

in my opinion its still early days for Tesla. They hired a boatload of people to fill positions in a very short amount of time. When you do this you end up with some good employees and a whole lot of those that aren't the best fit. Unfortunately they didn't do productive turnover process of weeding out those who weren't right over time, instead they did mass layoffs so good employees become collateral damage. hopefully this year they can stabilize and be more efficient with their process and their people.

I worked at Data General in so portland me. We let the imployes do plant layouts and submit them to industrial engineering.
If they could not prove the plan wrong in 2 weeks we would change the plant layout.
This would make the decisions at the lowest level and empower the the people who were doing the work and know the most about the line.
In some cases the supervisor would participate with good or bad result.
But in general it was to provide better working conditions and a 10% space for work in place to be dropped jest in time.
Empowering the workers was a great way to improve moral, and it was a great success.

I’ve been in upper management for 15 years in the oil & gas industry and you just described every company in America, Tesla will make it and put me out of a 33 year career in short order because you can’t stop innovation and the entire world wants what they produce they just don’t all know it yet Just ask Bill Gates and Mr Jobs Jeff Bezos etc Elon is all of them plus himself combined .... just a thought when will we be driving Tesla’s to Mars ?

There are problems at every company. I have heard his story a thousand times from people who worked at other companies, example Amazon, Ford, GM, Toyota, Nissan, etc. His views are just that, others I am sure have different views.

I have been in the ‘tent’ it’s not exactly a tent. It’s a pretty substantial structure.

Great video to help give some insight on what it’s like to be a Tesla employee. It would be interesting to hear a story from a factory worker. Tesla has better working conditions than Amazon so they must be doing some things right. #TeslaForever

Living in a city that HAD 2 major vehicle manufacturers (Mitsubishi/Chrysler and Holden (GMH), both now closed (along with Ford and Toyota in Victoria), it was common practice when sales slowed and slow sales periods were expected, large amounts of production line staff were 'let go' and output was reduced to cut costs (improve profits).
Unfortunately, you could pretty much much guaranty some of these cuts would come just before Christmas.
Welcome to the Auto industry.
I feel Tesla is getting a disproportionate amount of press for just about everything they do, because it's Tesla. It's a growing business in a cut-throat industry. 'New' car companies rarely last more than a few years. Tesla is doing the (near) impossible, unfortunately, the workers will always be the most fluid cost variable.

Every former employee has something bad to say about the system.

Somewhere down the line in management there is a manager that sucks at his job, and it affects all under him/her. I remember Elons letter to the employees and how he didn't want unnecessary bureaucracy, and that chain of command is not to be upheld, when it hinders progress

Robots are slowly replacing the lines workers that don’t care... and this is how Tesla will be profitable in mid term.

Recently I had to go in to the service center for a minor issue. I was upset that the person that I talked to at roadside assistance said that she would notify the service center that I was coming, in.. the Tesla Ranger that was at my house 3 days before said that I needed to go to the service center and that he would notify them.. when I came in.. of course they had no record of it. Their in house communication for our service records is screwed up.. I recommend that if you own a tesla.. keep your own records. I had to get a 12v battery replaced.. only 4 months after the last one was replaced and they couldn't find that service visit for my car. Luckily, I had my invoice and they replaced it for free and apologized. Something is very wrong with their internal communications.. and don't try to call and talk to someone about.. there is nobody to call anymore.

I bought a P100DL a year ago and it was missing trim clips. Otherwise pretty solid, it was built May-June 2018.

We took delivery of a new Model 3 today. The car is amazing, just a few minor cosmetic issues. I'm sure there were many different experiences for people on the journey but they're getting it figured out. Nice car, fun to drive.
