Greetings from America. Japan is a pillar of dependable Allies. We value Japan for far more than just its social contributions. We align in all matters of military concerns.

I'm Japanese and love military, so I'll explain.
One of the reasons Japan is developing railguns is to counter China's large stock of IRBMs and HGVs. The Ministry of Defense believes that "to intercept HGVs, it is important for the interceptor to also head to the rendezvous point at hypersonic speeds, " and a railgun with a long range and the ability to shoot continuously is the perfect solution. Although it is not shown in the video, research is also being done on vehicle-mounted railguns, and they are being considered for the defense of air bases and ports.
And as you may have noticed if you watch the video, Japan's railguns are smaller than those being researched in the United States and other countries. The caliber is about 40mm, which reduces the range and power, but it has succeeded in reducing the wear on the barrel and the power required. And this is enough for anti-aircraft use.
Research is still ongoing, but practical application may not be that far away.
I wrote this sentence using Google Translate, so I'm sorry if it's difficult to read.

Railguns on Military ships we will likely see Modern Battleship return armed with Railguns instead of ordinary one.

A successful test of a ship mounted railgun with projectiles used of around 40mm in diameter was completed not long ago by Japan.
Considering they were using a ship mounted energy source to power the gun and that the gun was aimed and stabilised successfully means the Japanese have the jump on everyone with this technology. Having an operational and usable weapon of this type ready for service is a very impressive feat of engineering.
They obviously kept the overall size of the gun and projectile small to limit the power needed to operate the gun and ancillary systems successfully.

Following WW2 Japan needed a period of years of reflection concerning their relationship with the rest of the world. They have been successful in that effort.

Design an put a small reactor on the ZW and power is no longer an issue.

Interesting how the USA "cancelled" their railgun project, yet now Japan is making progress on the tech.

Tell me again the scary reason that Japan is testing railguns !! This devolved into a discussion of US Laser and Railgun technology.

I highly doubt anyone can engineer a satellite that can survive being shot out of a railgun and still function properly.

Japan was once an industrial powerhouse and is still leaders in many technological fields today - except the military. Thanks to Winnie Xitler, Japan is now manufacturing missiles for the US (that's 100% trust from the US as missile technologies are some of most sought-after and highly guarded secrets) and is well on her way to become a regional military might. Together with the US/Taiwan alliance, it will be a formidable force not even Winnie & Pootin can brush aside.

The fact that Japan places a percentage of their massive GDP into Defense allows them to have a massive Navy and aircraft.
