Just a heads up with some of the default schedules available. If it says Off Duty the default is to have them remove armor/weapons. One can edit the schedule during the off duty months if you want them to keep wearing the uniform during those months. This is advised as well...if you need them to fight in a hurry you may not have time for them to put on gear first!

Hey man I haven't played this game in at least 7-8 years. I actually found out a few weeks ago they were making a steam upgrade with cool graphics. I immediately bought it and I'm having a blast even though my first fortress didn't make it.

I love your small informative videos and really appreciate the let's play as you explain everything. Thank you so much there's a lot of great information on this channel and the way you speak really clicks with my learning style.

This game is an absolute treasure.

Quick tip: Don't bother with backpacks (as cool as it sounds). Dwarves don't really benefit from carrying extra food around, and having backpacks in your fortress leads to a weird bug where military dwarves leave food in their rooms until it rots, and since it is linked to them specifically, your other dwarves will refuse to interact with it (i.e. take it to the garbage heap). Just hook them up with water skins full of booze and start cutting down the green skins and tree hippies :D

ive been dwarf curious for years. watched a lot of Kruggsmash. Appreciated Dwarf Fortress but knew I needed this new release to be able to play it at all. I really appreciate these videos, you've really helped me chip away at this game's esoteric logic and allowing me to love this game and hopefully teach others. (I got a guy who's birthday is soon and I think he could stand to lose a few hours to this beast.)

Thanks

I couldn't find information ANYWHERE else saying that the little icons on the right of the uniform display were Flasks and Backpacks. Flasks I was able to figure out myself but I never would've been able to figure the other icon was a backpack, so thank you for that!

The icon next to the backpack is a flask/waterskin. Not sure if there's an easy way to tell if they're full, or if there's some place to set what they're carrying like before.

Also I wish the button to disband the squad wasn't next to the one to cancel their orders. One day I'm gonna click the wrong red button...

Icon next to the backpack is a flask for those who are wondering. You can make them from iron or other metals and leather. I think you can also make them from glass but I never tried. Flask are handy so that your dwarfs don’t get thirsty.

Been waiting for this one, thank you so much. In classic DF military was a pain and in the steam release I still have a hard time wrapping my mind around it

As an occasional longdeath viewer finally returning to playong forts, it's awesome to see you get this growth. Thanks for the tutorials and content! One of the best DF creators for sure

ARCHERS: they only like to pick up bolts that are made after they've been assigned armor. make sure you have a crossbow in the uniform, assign it, wait for them to pick up crossbow and quivers, and then make some bolts. it's a bug.

Quick and very effective tutorials.
I can play the game, and quickly go through the content in your videos.
A great supplement and a great 8 minute idea.
And I do like your voice so BOOM subscribed :)

There should really be more shapes and such to use as squad symbols. I hope the devs add more in a future update or something.

5:05 - Correction, the right side of the ruck is flasks so they have water/alcohol with them at all times. They don't necessarily need it but having water or a drink at hand while on combat missions makes them more efficient.

I've had a real hard time trying to get my marksdwarves to do any kind of training, they don't seem to automatically gather bolts into their quivers and I can't figure out how to assign any to the squad. In the end I gave up and made them into regular melee dwarves.
