Carl Jung on Why Intellectuals Are Cowards

Показать описание

"Beware of unearned wisdom." Carl Jung proclaimed, facing the personal shadow is the only way to attain the experience of life to garner true wisdom from personal life experience itself. To do away with the comfortable pleasures which give us believed stability and to face the truth of what is truly beneath our feet.

For example: So many priestly intellectual types preach from a book that illustrates no experience of their own lives whatsoever. They do not teach from the experience of life! They do not know what they are truly talking about. This is Intellectual cowardice.

"Experience without theory is blind, but theory without experience is mere intellectual play."

Unearned Wisdom is everything you learn through your mind from others instead of through your body by experience.
EVERYONE should count themselves in this group, the last 2 generations are the epitome of this...

*I find it funny that no one ever calls that man in the mirror the coward, they seem to think their wisdom somehow earned even though they never experienced what they speak on or teach*

“. . .modern people…are ignorant of what they really are. We have simply forgotten what a human being really is, so we have men like Nietzsche and Freud and Adler, who tell us what we are, quite mercilessly. We have to discover our shadow. Otherwise we are driven into a world war in order to see what beasts we are.” (Carl Jung, Visions: Notes of the Seminar Given in 1930–1934)

Profound stuff, as always...thx!

BTW, just a thought, but maybe sometime you could also explore the subject of Narcissism from the POV of Jung and other thinkers, since it is arguably one of the foremost psychic 'maladies' of our times, and stands in direct opposition to a more 'Integrated' Self. Molto Grazie!

You left out the other side of the boxing analogy, they fight each other but they also fight themselves in order to follow rules that will allow them both, win or lose, to fight again. They are aware of those rules, and rejecting wild untrampled violence they engage in a sophistication of violence.

The difference between intellectualism and stoicism is one faces emotions while the other rationalizes a world without its existence

It all depends on what you mean by intellectual. To look at it from the angle that an intellectual has the means to become intelligent. In other words to have common sense. And more&more of it.

I have three goals:

Kill Malenia in Elden Ring
Finish and publish a DnD adventure for LotFP
Write and compile a new short stories book and send to contest

The LotFP module is going well. The other two, not quite.
