I Tried Living in a 240 Square Foot Prefab Home

I tried living in a 240 square foot Prefab Home. Last week I found a prefab home that I was able to rent to see what it's actually like to live in the space. The modular home is a 240 model built by aux box, a studio model with a living space/bedroom, kitchenette and bathroom. The best way to get a sense for the space is seeing it in person and by spending an extended period of time in the space I was able to learn more about the space. This was my first time in a 240 square foot home and this video is a tour/summary of my thoughts.

I think this is for "staying" rather than "living." Other considerations would be murhpy bed, sofa bed, table and chair for eating, more storage, laundry equipment. But a nice place and great to see something like this for Tofino where it could appeal to their seasonal workers. Love the channel.

Not really a "home", IMO, way too small and no storage/real kitchen, but would make a good weekend getaway and a great "backyard office" if you have the property and want a little distance between "work" and "home".

Great bathroom for that size of unit, very clever use of the glass door and window. Cool outdoor area, I like how they did the fencing.

Re: the bathroom shelf, they just need a couple sliding panel doors on it to hide all that mousse you use.

I love those dimming lights. I put em in my basement and now I feel like it’s “wrong” everywhere else. They are more expensive for the switching so it’s a preference thing. It’s totally useless but I like it. Next house, all lights.

The 350 sq/ft model would be doable. This 240 would quickly drive me nuts!

Loved this tour! Great bathroom for a small space, I feel that's sq footage well spent. The wood tones, dimmig lights, and heated floors make the space comfy and cozy.

Kerry, I truly appreciate your insight on this size of a unit! I agree that *correction* Aux Box (?the manufacturer?) has done a fabulous job!! The warmth of the wood and especially the heated floors goes further than most would initially consider. I think a small microwave or a kettle would go a long way to help guests have a better experience. Otherwise the extent the owners went to giving a sense of privacy is very well done!!! This looks like a great place to visit!
And I'll definitely look more into Article! I love your bed frame!!
Thanks again!

Hey Kerry, You eat very healthy. In regard to this house, I love it. Less is more. The outdoor space is the living room … which it makes sense

Excellent way to bring us into imagining ourselves living in this space! Great job, Kerry

Gas station Quiche...bold. I think that ranks up there with food truck (roach coach) Ceviche, for me, at least

I think two or three of these would make nice guest rooms next to a bigger one to live in full time.

Totally enjoyed this in-depth tour! Cool to hear how you enjoyed staying there. And btw, you have great taste in interior furnishings!

Nice bed dive! Impressive. The light switch tech would be perfect for people with low vision: it's easier on the old eye balls.

Stayed at an air bnb once that had an outdoor shower. I tried it because i had never done that before. It was awesome and took all my showers outside till i left.

I'm a little surprised that there is no microwave. Even motel rooms have microwaves.

Oh ya! That dimable light situation in the bathroom is a winner for sure! Useless, but a winner, no doubt!

Kerry ❤ a big fan of this channel and you of course. Have you seen the ADUs on offer for sale from Minimaliste? They are based in beautiful Quebec (eh, bien oui!) and originally started as builders of amazing tiny homes, however they have branched into ADU. They are gorgeous from the smallest to the largest they offer well designed modern interiors and exteriors and most importantly unlike many of the homes you present (I think I have harped on about this enough time to drive you completely crazy) AFFORDABLE! Yes, within reach of all pocket books! I hope you’re able to make a video showcasing their homes. Keep well, as always grateful for your channel. 😊

Longtime AuxBox fan ... this is only a partially upgraded ADU model, and not suitable for more than BnB living for 1 person or a couple. I would definitely go for Murphy styled sofa/bed combo and coffee table that can lift to dining height for daytime use. An induction cooktop and small convection oven, airfryer or instapot would negate the loss of limited countertop space to a 2 burner cooktop. Then it's livable. Thanks, Kerry!

Shows that small can be cool!! I agree it could be made more versatile, for different uses

I’m at a loss. I cannot see this as a full time residence. It strikes me as a regular hotel room (not a suite) with a pseudo kitchen. Interesting idea. Thanks.
