Those Decathlon "Adventure Pants" are great! My kid also outgrew his, and we need to get a new pair for next year.

One other thing that we got this year that was great was a sunshirt/bug shirt combo from Connec Outdoors- the Junior Draft Hoodie. It saves him from being eaten alive by blackflies on a Quebec trip, but if you dont want the bug protection, it's a great sunshirt! Hubby and I got one, too.

One of my favorite pieces of gear for backpacking with kids are those inflatable solar lanterns. You can leave them on most of the night til the die and just recharge them in sun the next day. You don't have to worry about the kids dropping them or running batteries down.

We are a family of 8 with kids from ages 3-14. We use Nemo disco 15* sleeping bags. Our 3, 6, and 7 year old use a women’s bag (which is smaller and warmer). Myself, husband, 12, 13, and 14 year old use a men’s bag. We don’t like to be constricted and don’t camp in temperatures below the mid 40s. I like that I can zip our bags together with our littlest ones. And we just use a piece of rope to tie off their bottom, so they have less room to warm up. We tried a Big Agnes kids’ 15* synthetic bag, but my daughter said she was cold and they really prefer to sleep next to us. At 6, she was almost touching the end of the bag.

At some point I realized everyone needs a warm sleeping bag. Over the years I ended up getting each kid a Nemo Disco 15. Great bag for the money when they go on deep discount. They are roomy as well so it gives them room to wiggle around. When your kids get older one of those small packable tables that you can play Uno or other card games on is fun.

Just found your channel, love the tips for hiking and backpacking with a 3-year-old, My son( who is also three of) and I have done a couple of overnight trips and I came to similar conclusions as you utilizing gear I already had for his sleep system and purchasing a four-person tent for our family of four. Definitely enjoying the adventures with my son and looking forward to the future.
