In this silent video you’ll learn how to display row labels on each row of a crosstab view, instead of using grouped row labels using the INDEX Calculation in Tableau.

1. Drag [Region], [Category], and [Sub-Category] to the Rows shelf
2. Drag [Sales] to the Columns shelf
3. Select Analysis, then Create Calculated Field...
4. In the Calculated Field dialog box that opens, name it Row Number, add the formula INDEX() and then click OK:
5. Right-click [Row Number] in the data pane and select Convert to Discrete
6. Drag [Row Number] to the first position on the Rows shelf
7. Optional: right-click [Row Number] on the Rows shelf and uncheck Show Header
