I feel like this build is one of the cases where you REALLY benefit from Radagon's Soreseal. You need every single stat it provides, and keep in mind even though you take ~13% extra damage, you still get 5 VIGOR which increases your total HP by 10~15% depending on how much vigor you already have. Not to mention, the points you free up by using the talisman can be invested further into vigor to make you even beefier, so the amulet can actually make you much tankier than using Starscourge for pure STR.

Just when I wanted to switch to a night and flame build, this comes around and keeps me on my faith/strength path! Dope build

What I especially like about Fextralife's approach to guiding people through some of the complexities of the game, and good builds, is that that he approaches it with a good touch of modestly. All the other channels I have checked out show you how to power level, or run through end game areas at the beginning of the game (avoiding most, if not all enemies), to get certain gear you should not probably have, becoming OP so fast that you are 2-3 hitting top tier bosses. I am not highly skilled at this game (yet), but don't want it to be that easy and cheesy. I like eating my older slinkier cheeses, don't get me wrong, but I think I will cut a slice of mild on here instead. Thanks for all you do!

Even all these years after the original Dark Souls, it's gratifying to see the memory of Dragonslayer Ornstein lives on.

For those a bit confused like me about Golden Vow. There is an early game ash of war called Golden Vow you can find, but there is also a later game incantation in Mt.Gelnir called Golden Vow you can use to stack buffs on your weapon. If you have Sacred quality on your weapon you cant buff your weapon with incantations.

I can't say enough about these guides! I know I am a bit late to the party with this game, but that is partly out of uncertainty with how my past experience has gone with Dark Souls games. I am glad I came across this channel because you do such a great job of giving people like me a little bit of a path to follow without spoiling the entire game. Thank you so much Fextralife!

The carian knight chest piece actually fits the leyndell armor really well. The nice contrast of blue/silver to the gold if y'all are following this build and want more fashion souls.

I just beat the game at about level 150 with an evolution of this build, so if you like this build and you're waiting for the endgame version I have a few tips.

The main problem you'll face going forward with the lightning lancer is holy resistance. Literally EVERY endgame boss resists holy. The final boss even HEALS from holy damage. I did love the treespear, and you could probably still make it work, but I just felt like I was at too much of a disadvantage. So I ended up picking up the blasphemous blade. It still scales with faith but it does fire damage. Plus it has cool effects like healing you when you get kills or hit something with its special. I used the "flame grant me strength" incantation to buff it, which works really well since it buffs both your fire and physical damage. Using it feels similar to the lightning buff, though it doesn't last quite as long.

The barricade shield/guard counter playstyle still works pretty well throughout the whole game. I kept the golden greatshield throughout and didn't even ever bother upgrading it. Definitely get and upgrade the mimic tear ashes. You will have two unkillable tanks running around and the bosses won't stand a chance.

For stats, I got vigor up to 50, put a couple more points into mind, and dumped almost every other point into faith. Keep in mind that all the buffs for this version (golden vow, blessing, flame grant me strength) all have preset effects. So your seal isn't actually that important unless you have some damage incantations you really like. But you still need the faith for damage.

Other than that, most of the advice in this video still stands. Get the physick flask component that grants you infinite fp for 15 seconds. This way you can easily get all your buffs going before a boss fight for free.

I love these videos because not only do you come up with thematic builds, but you actually explain WHY you chose to build them this way - which makes tweaking them far easier for your own playstyle. It's helped inform me to deviate to my own thing with confidence. There's a good dose of humility to these guides, none of that min-maxing nonsense. And the fact that the builds evolve every 50 levels from the early game where players are most likely to need help rather than just endgame OP builds - love 'em! (As an aside - there's really no reason not to take Two Fingers Heirloom instead of Starscourge Heirloom, it gives points into Faith instead of Strength, but is slightly lighter, so a net gain).

I love the Tree Spear! I’ve been using it. Very slept on weapon.

When it comes to Greatshields, I found that other alternatives are Cuckoo Greatshield and Redmane Greatshield and Golden Beast Crest Shield are just as good. When you calculate Guard Boost per weight, since Guard Boost improves with levels and you easily overshoot with Barricade, those come out ahead of the Golden Shield while giving very similar values in resistances. For when you feel that a big golden oval is a bit much and the silver armors are WAY more fashionable.

Something worth mentioning is that the Treespear is a great spear and it can stagger enemies quite a bit. Try jumping + charge attack. You can basically stun lock some foes with it.

I think this is one of the few shield/ spear builds that doesn't involve barricade sheild the actually works. I tried this build and so far this is giving me the utmost bliss with boss fights in this game this build was strong enough for me to beat astel on journey 6. Keep up the amazing work on the content and I will be subscribed to your channel.

Been struggling with the direction of my faith build as my goal has been to buff my weapon, but then I found out that you can’t buff it when you have holy damage on it. But now you show me this beautiful tree spear! I have to grab that next play session!

I'd love a COLD based build. Never thought it would be useful but coldbite can be effective in COOP.

Upgrade your greatshield! every other level increases the guard boost on shields! for example, +0 Golden Greatshield has 70 guard boost, +25 with no affinity has 76 guard boost. 6 doesn't seem like much but the closer you get to 100, the more they matter. you go from taking 30% of the stamina damage to only 24%, which is a 20% decrease comparatively.
