Can you shoot a bow at point blank range?

One thing rarely discussed is how energy is stored in an arrow. The bowstring pushes it from the base, but the head has inertia, so especially in a wooden shaft, the act of loosing the arrow turns it into a spring, with energy stored in the shaft. You'll see it when arrows flex back and forth in flight. One reason those arrows are breaking when shot at point blank is they are moving side to side as well as forward. This is why when you're shooting through an arrow slit, you need to stand back a couple of meters/yards back from it, so your arrow will fly out of it.

The worst part of this would end up being that you're leaving yourself much more vulnerable to a potential reversal by being that close to them. Remember everyone, ranged weapons have range for a reason
