Why are GAMES just SKIPPING the Xbox?

In this video DreamcastGuy talks about the idea of so many games skipping doing a release on the xbox Series X and Xbox Series S even when they are getting released in 2023 on PS5 and Nintendo Switch. This is more than just games like Final fantasy XVI and other Square Enix titles because even mid teir and indies are avoiding Xbox unless they get the Game Pass paycheck.

I’m an old school gamer and prefer to own my games, but I can see how gamepass has modern gamers expecting one service to fulfill all of their gaming needs and requirements thus eliminating the need to purchase anything outside of their subscription. Gamepass has a lot of great games but it doesn’t have em all and just prefer to buy what I like and not worry about it being removed from gamepass or Ps plus extra.

I really want both Sony and Microsoft to just blow it out of the water this year with their showcases. Just nailing on all cylinders. Would do so much to help rid of the narratives

Simple: the Head of Xbox himself doesn't even believe games will sale, so why bother!

They've conditioned their base that if it's not on GamePass then it's not worth their time or money. They don't buy games, let alone things like JRPG's or more niche titles. It might also be that any deals or offers MS brings to third party devs has that sticking point that it HAS to go on GamePass, and devs aren't willing to leave money on the table if they think their game will make more on other platforms or on the market period.

Gamepass effect, if dont buy the game you will have it in the service quickly and there is a lot to play in the middle to avoid buy it first, that mindset its very tricky

And just one they later, 80% of Sony Showcase games are officially coming to Xbox too. Where are the games that are skipping the Xbox you mention?

People shelled out $70 to play Zelda, Demon's Souls Remake, an enhanced port of Ghost of Tsushima, God of War Ragnarok, Horizon: Forbidden West, and Gran Turismo 7. People will pay $70 for Final Fantasy 16 and Spider Man 2. When you look up sales for Xbox studio titles, all you get is player numbers. This includes games that launched on PS5 a year before gamepass. I am guessing Ghostwire Tokyo and Deathloop did ok at best. Xbox is not in the market selling people games. Microsoft wants people to pay for the same service over and over again. But the NPD numbers prove the Xbox games do not reach the top of the charts anymore. With Sony now starting to leave xbox in the dust when it comes to consoles sold, The PS5 is starting to move into the 40 million range. Xbox has barely passed 21 million. Starfield does not come out until September. It might outsell Spider Man 2 given the fact that the studio has not released a game in seven years, but we will see how many people play the game versus how many people buy the game. If Starfield fails in sales despite the player base, then Microsoft just handed Sony another generation victory. Is Starfield strong enough to surpass Final Fantasy 16, Final Fantasy 7 Remake par 2, Spider Man, and Naughty Dog's upcoming project? I doubt it. Outside of Starfield, Microsoft does not have a lot. I doubt that Avowed, Everwild, and Perfect dark will come out this year. Fall 2023 will tell whether or not this generation will still have a tug of war. If Street Fighter 6, and Mortal Kombat 12 sell better on PS5 than Xbox One along with the exclusive titles, the Xbox is done. Yes the company will still be around and do fine. Microsoft had the advantage when the next generation consoles first came out. It was selling almost as good as PS5 was. Microsoft decided not to have games done in time and did nothing but push "freebies, " so now you have nothing but consumers who do not want to pay in order to play.

I have a PS5, a Zelda Switch and a Pokémon Switch lite. I bought an Series S for the living room to have Gamepass for the girlfriend and friend.

And I have turned it on 3 times in the last month, with 2 times being for Redfall- once to play and then once more to show my friends and laugh.

Because it doesn't sell. That's why.

Series S is by far the most popular sku, and is an albatross for multiple reasons.

- It is a trashy machine that devs have to spend extra time & money to figure out

- It doesn't have a disc drive, so less chance to sell games

- Has a small SSD, so it is very hard for them to sell games

- It is a known gamepass machine


So the real potential reach is the series X public which aren't that many. Blame MS

I will say, Xbox Series X is an amazing Sonic machine. Sonic Generations runs in 4K 60 FPS, Sonic Unleashed runs 60 fps, Sonic Adventure 2 runs in widescreen, of course we have Sonic Origins, Sonic Mania Plus, Sonic Adventure 1 could use some work, but it's available and playable there. Sonic Frontiers is fantastic on Xbox Series X.

And since SEGA doesn't have their own consoles anymore, Xbox series X is perfect option for a Sonic fan.
