I live very close to where you were talking about. I have driven past hell's gate numerous times and had no idea about the lore. I have written in a previous comment somewhere seeing what looked like a werewolf running along the road close to where I live. It was about 2 am in the morning. No one in my family believed me along with my friends. They told me it was just a bear. I know what a bear looks like. It wasn't a bear and I was really glad I was in my car and it was running away from me. Just telling you this brings up all the feelings of terror seeing this animal running. It was very fast and I still struggle with what I saw. Thank you for sharing. It was really quite exciting to hear what you shared so close to where I live. xo

I first traveled the Fraser River valley in 1994, even taking the Hell’s Gate gondola through the gorge. I will have to check family pictures for anything strange.

Nine years later I was driving through there on my way to visit my girlfriend. I stopped at a roadside turnout near Hell’s Gate to sleep, as it was 1am. I was definitely creeped out and chose to park in the middle of the turnout rather than near the trees. When I woke about dawn (it was August), a RCMP officer was parked close to my car, doing radar work. He walked up to me after I was out of my car getting breakfast from my trunk. He asked where I was going and I indicated my destination was Calgary. He then told me he had stopped to check out my car when it was about 3-3:30, saw my plates were from Washington State and had felt he needed to stay close to me.

I was creeped out again by the location, thanked him for his service. I left and have never been back.

@What Lurks Beneath Well, I think this is possibly the best storytelling you have done to date. 1st rate brother! Lots of neat storytelling tricks, and some of them are very subtle.

The Dogman story concerning a trap door, makes me think of the Famous Tom Messick Disappearance. Where he was sitting on a rock alone waiting for his friends to drive deer to him to shoot b/c he was disabled, and once they got close to his position they heard a metallic sound that reminded them of a heavy door slamming shut and talked about the eerie silence that was there once they got to the rock he sat upon. Tom was never seen again, and he couldn't have walked away through the woods alone in his condition. The FBI also got involved and they never come in on a case unless it meets certain criteria, which his case didn't meet. Did something force him through an unseen trap door? No one will ever know. God be with his family and may God watch over anyone that goes into remote places.

I grew up in the Fraser canyon.
In a house on...Fraser canyon road directly across from the river to be more clear. I have loved the wilderness since I could crawl but there was something about that place that made people feel uneasy.
People like my father and my uncle who both grew up in a shack where it got so cold that spiders would crawl into your bed for warmth. My dad has terrible arachnophobia because of that place. He isn't scared of anything but spiders.
Especially plastic ones that don't die when you step on them.
It was a beautiful home that normaly we couldn't afford but the price was insanely low.
I don't know if that had anything to do with the creepiness of the area.
So many people and dogs were lost to the river.
We witnessed a lot of very strange things there.

Those area's in Canada, to include other tales of horror, are seemingly very mystical in nature. The "Headless Canyon" has similar stories. There's a place I'll never yearn to visit. I'm good with that!! 😂 16:43

In 1980, I drove the Fraser River Canyon in a '58 GMC pickup and camper on my way to Alaska. Two weeks later, I drove the same way back. I never saw not even one cryptid creature. The camper is long gone, but still have the pick up.

I can’t even guess how many times I’ve driven through the Fraser Canyon. Been through or to most of the towns you’ve mentioned I’ve never seen anything wild or crazy but it is wild beautiful country. Making the road through there must of been one hell of a task. There’s also two rail lines. I’m sure if there’s spirits up there, some would be the Chinese labourers who gave their lives putting through the rail lines and long tunnels.

I live in a hot spot that's super close to a canyon just like that, apropriately named Phantom Canyon.

Sex kitten you did a story about something I know quite a lot about. Living in the Fraser Valley not too far from the canyon I have spent time in it. A fault runs through the canyon, called the Fraser fault (straight creek fault in the US). The rocks on one side of the canyon have counters 100 miles south. The west side has traveled 100 miles. This leads to some unique stresses in the canyon (despite the fault being extinct). Some have theorized that lights and weird perceptions are due to the geological stresses.. Also during early time of the railway a young sasquatch was caught (according to story). It was placed in a boxcar, but had managed to escape by the time the train stopped. Also you describe the Thompson canyon a tributary of the Fraser. It is famous for many people disappearing, associated around Spences Bridge and into Merritt.

Good story, it is a beautiful place to hang out in. Warmest part of Canada often, lots of recreation and rockhounding.

Holy crap I think me and my brother actually saw a real thunder bird. We never knew what it was. We were driving home one afternoon and I screamed at my brother to stop the car. Well being my older brother and even though we were both adults he of course snapped at me and said "WHAT!" But I couldn't say anything I just pointed and he looked at where I was pointing and they're standing on the side of the road at at least 7 ft tall was this giant bird like creature. We had no idea what it was but we sat there for about 3 minutes just staring at the thing. It had a long thick neck with a small head and two extremely thick legs resembling the legs of an ostrich. But this was definitely no ostrich. I nagged my brother to honk the horn to see what it would do and as soon as he did it stretched out its wings which were at least 8 ft across and it leaped into the air with extreme strength and just flew off like it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. .. we never knew what it was. I swear on my life I'm not making this up.
