Yes, building affordable housing is a MUST! May I encourage folks to buy a multi-family (duplex, quad, tri-plex) with 5% down and live in one of the units and rent the others. After one year...repeat this process.

I bought my house in 2010 for 95k. I couldn’t afford it and have messed up again and again but I hung on to the house. I’ve had SEVERAL loss mitigations and now I owe about 120k. My mortgage is $1051 and I’m renting the house for 1700 which will go up to 2000 in January. The house is now worth $315, 000.

So even if you don’t do it perfectly, you can still do it. The one instruction God gave me was to stay with the house. A landlord would have evicted me, but the bank worked with me to keep my house. And now when I sell it, I can invest in more real estate or take the equity out and invest.

the best thing we ever did was buy our first home. It grew from 195k to 350k in 6 years. Of course we bought in a good area with great schools, and it was a townhouse hence the 195k price. Don't let them fool you.
