In this video, we explore concepts and theories central to the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau, asking questions like: Is humanity inherently good or bad? Is progress always a good thing? Is there something inescapable in us that will always manifest in the form of evil or chaos?

Lenin once stated "Any civilization is three meals away from a violent revolution"

So many things work so perfectly to keep the world functioning that is almost a miracle that society exists at all.

Hurt people, Hurt people. Society doesn't always have the patience or time for empathy and thus creates a frustrated and lost creature looking for connection and belonging, but the creature knows not how to listen to others because no one truly listened to them. A cycle of pain can change to beauty if one understands just how much power they have by simply listening to another

Rousseau really said "we live in a society" unironically

“Man is naturally good” Fundamental mistake and easily disproven.

Honestly I use to be a "do no harm, leave no negative impact" kind of human and always have been but having people target me for harassment, steal from me, use me and dog me out at random has made me literally violent.

I started smacking men for talking crazy to me, I get aggressive when people get aggressive with me, I seek revenge instead of turning the other cheek. And I absolutely hate it.

I miss when I believed the world was kind and when I believed most people where good people. I genuinely used to believe that something had to trigger evil in people but now I see people are just like that. Most people have I'll intentions, most people will do you wrong and most of the time it's best to just avoid others entirely. I hate it and it feels wrong but it's reality.

Be a POS cause people are going to treat you like one regardless.

If someone's thoughts are usually "evil" but their actions are usually "good", then are they a "good person" or a "bad person"? Maybe people do "good" things and"evil" things and shouldn't be simply defined as good or evil.

Watched for 16 minutes until the sponsorship: I saw no thought experiment to test whether I'm evil or not. Am I evil for criticizing your video or am I good for calling out a clickbait title? I remain an unchanged man.

I used to think I was good. I was so well behaved. Rarely inconvenienced or bothered anyone. Until last year. I did something that no one in my non-online life knows about. If known, it would destroy my whole life. I had no idea I was capable of such evil. But, it seems I am.

Since then I’ve no idea who I really am. The only solution I see is in the words of Jung, “I'd rather be whole than good”. Hopefully I can figure out how to do that.

It’s not evil to not tolerate stooopidity

There is, fundamentally, no objective answer to whether or not anything is justified. Knowing what others believe is and isn't justified is still very useful information for guiding your own behavior.

Jokes on both Rousseau and Hobbes, because we’ve got existential dread in both settings, just that one has nicer lighting.

Looking at “ancient” history showed me that most humans are wicked.

Leisure only comes after filling your belly.
Just saying, its truth.
When youre hungry, you have no time for games and wasting time.
Our hunger dictates almost everything.
And a hungry animal, is a dangerous one. Especially if theyre as smart and cunning as we humans are.

Was Rousseau the first to invent the trope of the noble savage?

I'm a very good person, but occasionally I have to do what a very bad person would do.

One thing that civilization does do, as mentioned, is create differences between everyone. Everyone has a different job, everyone has different friends, a different lifestyle, etc. And where humans can be truly evil is not necessarily amongst their own group, but towards different groups, of which civilization create many of. And so civilization inherently creates the situations in which we know humans are the most immoral

Humanity is multifaceted. One cannot look through simply one or two facets while proclaiming they have seen. Add to that the prism effect and reflective mirror concept... We as individuals are limitless to benefit or to destroy others. As a collective.... We become Self-destructive.
