What is the ONE thing about Sturgis that keeps you coming back?

I'm an 84 yr old female that sold my last bike this spring 2022, 1st bike owned was 1965, 4 times riding to Alaska PLUS. My 1st time in Sturgis was 1990. No trailering of bikes ever. 2nd time was 1998 by way of Michigan [home] to Alaska then Sturgis on the way home. You are right about a lot of "week end warrior's" riding roads they had NO clue what to do. PLUS, getting stoned or drunk on their a-- then riding. After '98 never had a desire to go back, to d--n many RV's & animal's on scorching hot pavement BECAUSE people were so stupid to put a little dog on blacktop that was 120'. I was a nurse in a mental institution for 13 yrs then a bar owner for 17 yrs, I have SEEN a LOT of human nature & nothing really surprises me. Did I love riding my 1500 Gold Wing for 1/2 million miles, you bet I did. Nothing in the world like it. Keep the dirty side down.

I’ve been to sturgis 5 times . The cost becoming prohibitive. I now prefer to go in September after the rally. You can still enjoy the rides at your pace. You get to pay a reasonable price for accommodations. And there’s no huge crowds to contend with. All you miss is the vendors and concerts. No biggie

the main problem with getting older is not wanting to accept it and your mind keeps telling you that you got this but, your body is not in the same mindset. I am 74yrs old and I have had almost every named brand motorcycle under the sun. my last motorcycle was a DYNA SUPER GLIDE CUSTOM 2004 and as soon as I started to understand that it was getting harder to handle I sold it and searched around for a smaller and lighter bike I found an Indian scout 60 and I am still enjoying my riding in the mountains, the twisties and I love highway riding. the tick here is to stay aware of your changing life and slow down or downsize and accept that you can't handle the heavier bikes anymore. also! be grateful for all the years that you did! I am only 5' 5" so I stay within my height limits for bikes. ride safe and thank you for taking me along on your journeys.

Just seeing a place that busy is a stress 'nope' from me! I'll stick to the off season 🙂

I'm fortunate to only live 100 miles from Sturgis. This was my 22nd year attending. I get to ride the hills whenever weather and time allows. The main reason that I still go is to catch up with all the great people I've made friends with over the years. Making plenty of good memories to look back on and enjoy.

Heading back this year from Australia for my 3rd Rally and it definitely should be on every bike riders bucket list at least once, it truly is something to be seen and experienced

I love Sturgis. My favorite place. I live in Georgia but also am from Ohio. I meet relatives and friends there and we have the best time. My favorite thing about Sturgis is how nice and respectful EVERYONE is

I'm an SD resident, and here is my opinion as someone who has been to the rally a few times: It's not the time to be in the Black Hills if you are there to RIDE. It's quite an experience, and I'd argue that it's something a motorcyclist should check out at least once. Other than that...it's a damn zoo. I will zip out for demo rides, then head home after a couple of days. I get out to the Black Hills about 2 to 3 times per year to ride, and find that early June and late August are generally the BEST time for people who actually want to ride. I'll go so far as to say it is some of the best riding in the country.

I've been riding since 1967. I have a lot of motorcycling experience both on and off road and I've never had an accident. (knock on wood!) I just got rid of my 600 pound motorcycle and I am buying a 350 pound bike. I realized that the bike was beginning to become a struggle and just wore me out quicker than I wanted. Downsizing is the perfect answer but there are a lot of elderly riders out there that refuse to do that because they won't look as macho, they won't ride anything but a full size Harley, etc. I feel bad for those riders because they are letting their egos control the situation instead of common sense. My feeling is that I would rather spend the next 10 years of my life riding until I'm 80 rather than end my riding in the near future because of a crash that my ego caused.

I’ve always equated Sturgis to Wild Hogs. A bunch of chiropractors who never ride but just want to look cool.

This was my third trip to Sturgis - the first time with my wife. I’m 65 yrs old and had to face the harsh reality that my ability to manage a fully loaded touring bike is not as good as it used to be. Since returning from Sturgis, I traded in the Road Glide last week and got a Can Am Spyder RT Limited so that I can continue to enjoy touring together. Sturgis is now in the books as “been there, done that” so it’s highly unlikely we’ll go again, but it is a “must see” IMO, for any motorcyclist. Thanks for your great videos!

Went to the rally in 2004 and had a great time. Went to Sturgis this year 1 week after the rally and had a much better time.No crowds no waiting in lines. Those are some of the most enjoyable roads I have ever been on with a motorcycle as I live in Va.Beach Va. Already planning next year for Yellowstone.

Sturgis is something you should see at least once in your life. It is an amazing experience. Having grown up in the Black Hills you are 100% correct on your assessment. Great video.

I partied like a rock star and had the time of my life. I can't wait to go back!

We have a core group of 20 who have been doing the Rally since 2001. We go.the week before and stay through the week of and enjoy each others company. We're from all over the country and Canada. We love the Hill City/Keystone area and camp at the local campgrounds, like Kemp's Kamp, Palmer Gultch KOA, and Larsson's Crooked Creek Resort. AWESOME PLACES!!

Not my kind of party, have never been there, never will be. Open roads, a few riding buddies and fair prices is my thing. Yeah, I am dull. However I do enjoy the experience vicariously, thanks Jess.

Jess, I'm planning to tour America next year (I'm from Scotland, UK) ad watching your journeys have been a god send for giving me ideas. I'm looking forward to watching the "Jess goes West" playlist. I've been wanting to tour America on a Harley for the past 20 years and promised myself I would once retired...well that time has come. Planning starts next month with the main goal of riding through the main street at Sturgis wearing my family tartan kilt. It's the little things LOL!! Thank you for your videos, the inspiration I get from yourself, Adam Sandoval etc is immense and gives me too much ideas for my trip...not a bad thing! Safe riding and keep the rubber side down. Take it easy, Bryan

We rode from western Washington on our Triglide, 1200 miles each, first time going. Our take away was the rally is what you make it. If you want the crowds you can, if you want be solo you can, if just want to sit with a cup of ice cream and people watch you can. We had a absolutely wonderful time. Will we go again, you betcha! Just not every year. Great people, great roads.

2024 will be my first year (fingers crossed) attending Sturgis. Leaving Pennsylvania to Colorado hoping for the Iron Butt accomplishment along the way. Teton and Yellowstone followed up by 4 days to end the rally. 6500 miles total estimate. Thank you for all the tips
