'Jesus ain't happy': Finance secretary accused of stealing $768,000 from Florida church

During 5 years she took $750k? That's $150k average per year. Was anybody supervising this employee? Basic sound accounting practices would have provided for detection of this theft within the first 30 days. Church officials were negligent, no question about it.

Hey guys, you know that scripture in the book of John in the Bible where that woman was caught in the very act of adultery and Jesus said to her accusers "He without sin cast the first stone." Then He wrote something in the sand and all of her accusers left one at a time then Jesus told her to "Go and sin no more." Well, I'm thinking if Sheriff Grady Judd had been there he might have been winding up for the first pitch. Anyway, that former church secretary is probably going to go to jail for a while.

My goodness, just how big is this church that it takes 11 years to noting 3/4 million dollars missing. Our average church’s annual budget is about $300K a year and that barely covers the operating costs. There is no way on earth someone could get away with skimming $750 from our budget.

I watched the entire video of this story on the Polk county sheriff website which gave a more in depth explanation of how she pulled it off. I still don’t understand why a church would let one person manage that amount of money. Even with my church’s paltry $300k annual budget, there are four people accountable for managing those finances including the secretary.
