Northeastern brazilian music uses this a lot

I thank you, Rick. It brings together many things I’ve stumbled across over the years in piano and guitar playing. Those half steps, the minor 9’s and maj 7ths. And now augmented thrown into the brew! So many combinations, both harmonically and melodically! Many of these things were known but you have expanded the view big time! Thanks, mate.

We call it the brazilian mode because of its uses in the Brazil's northeastern folk music like the Baião.

I think of Lydian b7/Lydian Dominant as a fusion of Lydian and Mixolydian under the Ionian/Major mode.

Take a major scale, sharpen the 4th note to get Lydian or flatten the 7th note to get Mixolydian. Or sharpen the 4th AND flatten the 7th note to get Lydian Dominant, the fusion of Lydian & Mixolydian.

Gorgeous! The melodic minor scale is possibly my favourite scale and the chords that are able to be created from it are so beautiful. I think it's that M7 interval with the m3. I love all those beautiful chords you can make: A+7, DmM7, Fmaj7+, Fmaj7#4#5 (gorgeous). I instinctively played some inversion and 9 chords from this mode too like: 2nd and 3rd inv A7 and G9b5(no3rd).
Also you can get a few sus2 chords like Asus2, A+sus2.
Thank you.

I've always used the term LYDIAN DOMINANT, as per Mark Levine and Jerry Coker. Anyone else?

These videos are my favorite beato videos. I get so much inspiration from these harmonic worlds. I really want more of these!

studying your modes and scales has taken my piano playing to a new level Rick. I've been playing for years and studying but these modal apps have cleared my head on many ideas I've been utilizing for a long time(and certainly some I was not using as well). Thanks, , once again Rick.

Mr Beato. A wonderful clip - as usual. I have been besotted with the sound of the lydian b7 since discovering it in my teenage years and I am grateful for the coverage you have given it.

You could also think of it as D Dorian with a Major 7 and then move it around and start on different notes like a mode. I never thought of the D Melodic Minor being Dorian with a Major 7 but I guess after a while a lot of things become enharmonic. I'll try it tonight at rehearsal and see if I can find a place for it. Thanks Good Stuff!

I remember being so turned on when I first heard it in "Georgia". I referred to it as the Ray Charles chord for a long time. A door to a much larger world!

Rick its great to hear your piece at the end of this compared to the piece at the end of the lydian #2 video. This one makes me really happy, the other one makes me feel very uneasy (in a good way haha). Keep up the great work. Thanks!

It's a good idea having a tune at the end to demonstrate the scale.

also known as a mode of the jazz minor. Every time 7 chord comes up, play this chord instead (9b5) which provides extra #4 interval for blues scale runs and licks
