Think The Customer Is Always Right? Think Again.

The customer is always right is an old way of thinking that's being challenged by technology. In this video, you'll learn the top moves that make you a Pita customer.

Top Pita Move 1. Me No Read. How often do you not read a company's policy or the fine print? The customer isn't always right if they skip this important step - and then complain.

Top Pita Move 2. Me No Pay. Is the customer always right? Not if they volunteered to pay for a product or service and then stop paying, or ignore the fact that they owe money. Even worse? When they make you come after them for payment. They're essentially stealing.

Top Pita Move 3. Just being a beyooootch. There's no reason for anyone to be mean or cruel - ever. Do you ever forget that there's a real person on the other end of the phone or email?

On a scale of 1 - 10, 1 being you're the ultimate PITA and 10 being you're a superstar customer, how would you rate yourself? If you're less than a 7 right now, what's ONE change would you make to be a better customer? Tell us in the comments.

Thanks for watching!

Wow Marie, you couldn't have said it better! Working in the hotel industry I am expected to bend over backward for guests and am personally fulfilled when I can deliver excellent service. But some people are just out to make a ruckus or save a few bucks. I am so happy you made this video. I was actually thinking about starting a website where employees can rate their customers and now I believe it could actually work! I'll be heading over to your Bschool site now to brush up on my skills!

I never thought the customer was always right! The customer is a person and people are ...well people!

You are absolutely right customers being pitas, especially those customers who KNOW they owe you money! Jerk-wad customers make me want to be a better customers myself. ( by the way, that dress is amazing!)

I pride myself on being a great customer because I'm in business and I want to behave like I want all my clients to behave towards me. As an example I recently sent a special card that I created to the car salesman who sold us our new MINI Cooper. Today I received an email with a smiley face on it thanking me for the 'special' card that I sent him. I feel good - he feels good! That's the way the world will work if we are all kind to one another, even if there are problems to solve.

Glad to hear that some companies are now taking action against this and are no longer tolerating this breeding ground for abuse. Not only does it show concern for their bottom line, but it also shows concern for their employees well-being. Ebay has a good model of how the buyer as well as the seller gets rated so that everyone minds their Ps and Qs. All businesses should have this implemented into their transactions.

I too have witnessed this. A customer called an employee the n-word then phoned customer service and was promptly given a gift card and invited back to the store where she continued to harass this employee. Way to stand behind your staff and encourage good customer behavior.

Couldn't agree more, and I think social media aggravates the problems. There seems to be a lack of understanding now, and customers expect nothing less than perfection 24/7,

I work in a supermarket and find that when I'm pleasant and polite to them they're always rude and have no manners or respect for me. Though when I act as if Im in a strop or when I genuinely can't be bothered and don't want to be there the customers are nicer... It's weird. ***

This is a GREAT concept. All the important points aside though, I must know: The dress! Where's it from? It is GORGEOUS!

Awesome points made! I honestly feel like I'm a solid 9! Having worked in retail so long, I know what it feels like to deal with PITA's allll daayy looong.... so I always try to make interactions with me as a customer as pleasant as possible. Plus, you get more flies with honey!! Why ruin someone's day? There's always a way to get something solved without either party getting stressed!

Valid topic. If you are an unhappy customer, be firm but stay respectful. Don't cross that line.

I used to work at Zara and was horrified to see how customers treat the merchandise which they havent even purchased. So many clothes get thrown on the floor, stepped on and ripped because people just don't have any respect for what's not theirs! It's awful. I only lasted in retail 3 months but now I always put my clothes back on the hanger and I'm extra patient with the girls in the fitting rooms

you are right on with this one. I'm in retail, and dealing with the pita with the attitude of customers are always right can be very tiring to satisfy them. There is little respect out there for the common person. Wish we could make them all view this video.

this is true, I now do a three strikes approach. when it gets to be repetitive maliciousness, it's not worth it

I've loved this idea since I first saw it on e-bay years ago. As long as there's a way to write a counter-review, it's great.

Too many of the big corporations that can afford to give the house away in the name of "customer satisfaction" have now set a standard for catering to PITAs. They have allowed one too many customers to take advantage of them. I can say this because I've worked for a large well known retailer and have basically witnessed the creation of monsters out of their customers by not only allowing them to get away with abusive behavior, but also rewarding them. We now have numerous PITAs on the loose.

Right?! Then they get on the employees for having a dirty store. PFT! I worked in the jewelry/Accessories department at Mervyn's for 2 years until they closed. Kids would come up and spin the displays sending merchandise flying, and during back to school season the floor was littered with backpacks! I'm the same way though, I start cleaning up racks and refolding.
