I think the issue with nuclear weapons is that nobody really thought that Putin would have the audacity to start this full-scale invasion (i.e., war) to begin with. Given this, it's difficult to apply logic to the nuclear question. (He's not acted logically up to this point, so how do we know whether he'll act logically where nuclear weapons are involved.)

One of the five Ukrainians we are sponsoring has tried to help me with my Ukrainian language skills. Being raised in the Midwest, my ear doesn’t pickup the differences. He said many Ukrainians have a combined language which is really a mix of Ukrainian and Russian.
Ukraine is “OOH KRA YEE NÉE”, as opposed to “ooh kra ee nah” which is Russian.

Not sure nukes really matter, obviously the goal is to protect human life but when Putin and his Goonies throw them in your face so frequently, you actually go past caring. Ukraine lives are the lives we all think about daily.
Enjoying your channel recommend by Ukraine Matters 👍👍👍💙💛

When I was serving in the Air Force, we had a rule: never believe any news until the moment the Russians deny it.

You can tell by what they focus on lying about. That's a good way to put it.

Now I think I understand the confusion over the translation of “thank you for supporting Ukraine”. Your translator is giving:
Дяуую що Ви вболіваєте за Україну
Which results in the last vowel being pronounced “oo” as in moon.

An alternate translation is:
дякую за підтримку україни
which results in the last vowel being pronounced similar to the last syllable of monkey.

So you were right originally and your reader was also right if they were thinking of this second translation.

Just spend some time learning the Ukrainian Cyrillic alphabet and that will make things clearer.

Those other Polish tanks won't be hunting Abrams or Leopards. I expect they will do fine.

I watched 1420 the other day the guy talks to Russians on thier thoughts on the war, he interviewed a young bloke who possibility gave the best reason why poo-tin invaded Ukraine, he said the soil is good (most of Russia is poor agricultural land) also the heavy industries are good in Ukraine along with the education, so nukes wouldn't be a good idea as it would make all that unusable, also if he did use just tactical nukes that's a red line for nato to go into Ukraine conveniently 🤔
Another one that came up was that they are building prisons ?in some of the area's, which if true sound's like labour camp tactics

You were pronouncing the greeting correctly previously except the r sound was a bit of. But it was fine other wise. And now it sounds more like russian. Druzi should end with ‘zee’ like in magazine. Druzia is a russian word. And ‘moi’ should sound like two syllables ‘mo’ and ‘yee’. You can trust google on this one)

Pry-vit moy-i dru-zi. You can divide pronunciation like this. At the end you can say: Dyakuyu za pidtrymku ukrayiny (easier to pronounce). Wife smile and says she would offer you a langauge course)) Slava Ukraini!

While news is news or novini, when discussing background it is MORE instructive to critique what one reads.
Girkin, in spite of the Russian and Youtube penchant for ad hominem, and other problems I might get to, is past 50, and has been involved in FSB activities LONG ago.
He is a Moscow native, appears to have committed numerous war crimes, as far back as the mid-1990s in the Balkan wars, as an FSB operative, having formal military rank.

As commenters have suggested, to speak Ukrainian one must have more mobile lips and tongue. I noted last year that Ukrainian has considerable cognates with English and Romance languages. I recommend that adults waste not a moment in learning other languages, as our brains prune unused motor and sensory, as well as memory and other connections. (this is why learning the motor, cognitive, and varying meanings and relationships of thinking in another language, is so valuable - Learning a sign language even. Only musicians, and formal dance like ballet allows retention of concise sounds, managing another language with little or no accent)
.
On to "soap opera":
Humans are EXTREMELY sensitive to social cues, responding obsessively and violently to to perceived disrespect. Social status loss IS throughout our long evolution, also existential threat.
Thus dismissal as "soap opera" is really rather a signal that one is not strongly developed in empathy - defined here MERELY as sensing accurately another 's emotions. Thus, diplomats appear to be, to cruder, less socially functioning individuals***, as unnecessarily equivocal. In FACT, MOST human violence occurs as a result of what I have just stated.
Those in dominant social positions in hierarchical cultures ARE extremely sensitive (psychopathy itself is NOT mere social bluntness. That spectrum of aggression refers to cold, callous response, and since psychopathy INCLUDES several subtraits - Narcissism in both its forms, vulnerable AND malignant, Machiavellianism, all in varying but NEVER ABSENT degrees, some Sadism, as well as Persistent determined vengefulness (when you hear an individual praising revenge, you are experiencing someone either in the grip of rage or of lifelong position well along the intensity of the Psychopathic Spectrum!).
This MEANS that dispute is occurring and that vengefulness WILL be stored in the mind of ANY affected.
This is that human social brain's obsession.
Language is COMPLETELY social in its use. We actually think, as do other brained organisms BEFORE and OUTSIDE of Narration.
Russia IS a culture in which we find less emphasis on forgiveness and integrity than some- we observe this in Russian literature. Its philosophies and religions are not like those of many indigenous peoples, or prime tenets of Buddhism, for example.

Nations anywhere generally distill human traits TOWARD our worst. Legal systems often tend toward civility, though the undercurrent of dispute, and success in that dispute REMAINS the goal.

While the USA, has had some experiment with assassination, there are bureaus in all three major Russian, and all previous Soviet, information-managing Agencies use it as open, demonstrated, social control.
We notice in the human brain, that the MOST violent response, murder, sadistic glee, et cetera, occur when a perceived defection, betrayal, occurs.

So, while it MAY appear to safe, disinterested observers who have lived without violent experience, the promotion of discord DOES reflect this latter ethos.
While we may also observe that using it as major news item both resonates in the minds of humans, and is of moment, it ALSO influences the behavior of those, the dark Tetrad Psychopaths, influencing them to take more effective action against those who dispute.

Putin is a trader of "favors" - his entire known bio shows this. It is how he gained power. His venality was legendary to KGB operatives who knew him. Thus you can infer that he remembers all of emotional salience, BUT uses others' less controlled emotions to maintain less visible, but Manipulative power.

*** Experience with Quakers can be instructive. Because they are modeled early in life to avoid physical violence, they are less diplomatic in language skills than, for example, the common US southern subculture. All this is pretty extensive even to illustrate, so I leave you with this. University faculties are not always civil cultures, because of failures in social evaluative skills by those who regard only physical violence itself as proscribed. It is the Machiavellian and subtle spiteful social cliquish incivility to which I guide you for example of sadistic mental and social activity, as you are a Professor.
Spite itself- doing/saying things harmful to oneself in order to harm another is also a phenomenon learned through early antisocial, loveless, more compassionless, environments.

( Dostoevsky, whose attempts to preach some compassion, interested me in late childhood, pre-pubescent period, because of the violent social world I lived in, between the real-world more affiliative cultures, outside, it now seems, the general US problematic alcoholically degraded society. Almost no other animal is so distorted, though I suggest you look to Bob Sapolsky et al. on Baboon, and some Chimpanzee social science researchers to understand ourselves. We do not depart in other than complex verbal manipulation, from their social traits)

I tend to think that commentators focusing on disagreements, and even conflicts, among prominent Russian actors may be doing us something of a disservice when it comes to understanding events.

It is interesting but it may not actually be important. Leastways not yet.

What it does do is create something of a hope for change (in the news narrative as well as Kremlin policies) that draws attention away from more current and more important issues and problems.

It might be useful for the Professor to obtain an evaluation of Trump, before naively presuming that the latter has any unbiased cognitive function.
A more basic reason to argue for nonuse of nukes is that Russian history has shown that contamination affects populations LONG afterward. While pathological unconcern for one's "subjects" may not be relevant, the outrage of populations you DO desire to influence, as occurred following the Chernobyl accident IS important to an information-management regime.
As well, Ukraine is THE MOST fertile region of former Soviet Union, and contaminated food OR export products would reduce that value enormously.
All the armored warfare has been designed to protect troops from as much blast and radioactive effects as efficiently possible. THIS is a DESIGN FACTOR used by ALL producers.

There exists a cognitive fallacy called "False Equivalence" to which some minds, including that of professors not involved in rigorous sciences may be unaware, while it may occur in themselves. I would invite deeper examination of products and statements one makes, especially in political and social spheres.

The "i want to surrender" discourse should be informed by the vast expressed difference between Ukrainian and Russian war philosophy. Prigozhin was NOT the sole purveyor of human insignificance. Collective cultures emphasize to some extent that community is the important value. (from Marx through all feudal, and hierarchically-oriented cultures, the individual has lesser to no intrinsic value. Contrast this with evolution itself, which continually results in primarily individual organisms- it is most useful to have sensory, motor, and predictive capacity for individual survival.

A few taxa, primarily ants and the social bees, which are composed of mostly asexual nonreproductive individuals automatically self-sacrificing for genetically identical or half-identical relatives, and NO other brained organisms except naked mole rats, and to some extent, humans have veered into what's called Eusociality.
While we are obligate social, as s discernable in both these comments, it is only social loss, degradation which, in our minds, we equate, erroneously with loss of life. We do this due to the long-evolved desperate hormonal/emotional/cognitive desire for safe social inclusion.
Loyalty also occurs in far less social animals, though. Our most shared arousals and emotions, while neurally and hormonally originating, FEEL most important because they are.

To those of us involved in biological, behavioral and social sciences, every individual behaving or speaking in the public eye, ARE as visible as anxious dogs, defensive birds or mammals, and evasive humans.
When some remain perseveratively similar in response, it SHOULD be a signal that EVERYONE recognizes.

It is somewhat appalling to begin to understand that females in puberty a dozen years BEFORE their brains attain cognitive maturity are more skilled than journalists and other adults appear to be, in evaluating the most prominent social signals of others.

Although my comments here are lengthy, it seems that every sentence has grounding so extensive that it would be best if presenters gained several years of education in relevant disciplines. It is MOST important, though to recognize one's own biases, springing as they do from distillation, often erroneously, from narrow, but salient, past experience.
Please explore the formation of heuristics, for this is what brains do rather mainly for the purposes of instant response. Discussion, like rumination and self-examination, are absolutely necessary before publicly taking a position. Whether as skilled in information manipulation as are Russian professionals, or as excited as are children just discovering their own heuristic narratives, we have to self-curate a bit before presenting.

My criticism comes with a huge awareness that i WILL be misunderstood due to my own emotional experiences. I can only sak that others MOSTLY self-examine, as these comments are meant to help haul us ALL out of the pits of rage that war induces.

(Bucha is NOT NOT NOT the sole example of torture, execution of innocents, atrocities. EVERY restored area of Ukraine contains forensically examined and listed cruelties. Not merely Chernihiv, Izyum, Kherson, all of which recorded MORE instances, if buried. The truck crematoria had been eliminating evidence in Mariupol last spring, for Russian internal as well as world external reasons)
