Hey, just to let you know I’m a hairstylist and I specialized in color, the first color that you purchased was the same color that my son chose for his walls inside his home and the exact same thing happened. He saw purple and I saw pink (those are the base tones that make the color in the paint). I told him he needed to do a second coat and if he didn’t like it, then we would get a different color, it ended up that all the base tones filtered out and it looked just like the swatch. So in the future if you ever don’t like your paint always make sure you take a small area and do two coats before you decide to abandon it because color does change on the second coat.❤

I run a paint department - never pick your colors through a screen! I’ve had far too many customers come in saying they want a color they saw online, I show them the color chip, and it’s completely different than what they saw on their phone or computer screen. Look at paint chips, and get a half pint or pint sample and test the color in an area 1ftx1ft or larger. Your eyes can’t truly see color until it’s in a 1x1 area. I also tell customers to leave the swatch and look at it throughout the day - a color can change a lot with weather and the time of day.

Hiya! Just a quick comment about the concrete as a DIYer myself; I tried to patch the concrete in my parents backyard and the big cracks are a sign of damage from not only soil shifting but also water levels in the soil. These cracks then harbor more water, grow bacteria/plants which further separates the cracks, etc. This is all to say, it’s likely to crack in the same spots again. Another way to fix this is to cut the concrete down those cracks and add weather proof strips so they can freely move. I made my parents’ concrete into that pattern and added a more gravelly concrete on top to have big gravel pavers. If this area doesn’t get too much water though (my parents’ had a downslope that started collecting water); then you can also add grout which is the same principle as the weather strippers for allowing shifting, then top up the grout w outdoor sand compounds which can seal themselves w water.

Hey I do this for a living! I actually tell customers I won’t apply a product if they used a website to find their color. All screens show color differently so I always makes sure they saw it in person before application. Those websites can be tricky

Don’t pick colors online without seeing them first. Unless you have a color calibrated monitor, You have a better chance of winning the mega million jackpot than the colors matching.

What matters more, and what you did successfully, is preventing more damage to the concrete. Great job!

You have green walls reflecting on the space! It’s like having green glass in your windows!!

Concrete stain can have a chemical reaction which can change the color. When I got my garage floor done, we patched several colors in a spot that would be covered with a cabinet. The color I liked the most before ended up turning green after it was applied. So always test it in a hidden area.

That's why I watch YouTube videos before any project so that I can learn what goes wrong and how to make sure it goes right.

Good for you for tackling a job of this size, and, you didn't give up when the color was not your preference. Your parents are lucky to have you.

The undertone of a colour can absolutely change with lighting! ESPECIALLY if you are just picking a colour off of a screen. The way a screen displays a colour and the ways our eyes perceive the colour once its put in it’s actual environment can make them look entirely different

This looks great! The first paint reminds me of my old flats, they painted the outside a few years after I moved in and I asked the manager why they painted then pink "Its not pink, it's gun ship gray" was the reply I got, 100% it was not gray!

PERFECT TIMING! I'm just about to start this project for my parents!
Also, side note - getting a surface cleaning attachment for that pressure washer is a GREAT investment that'll save you HOURS 😁

You did a great job & love the perseverance. I think it would look even better with an epoxy floor kit or Nature Stone. I really think you would be way more happy with it. ❤

Very nice ending! Our deck looks like it wants to buckle, and so there are a few good sized cracks. I'm dreading it!

Be careful with concrete staining—most are actually paints that will peel and chip. Looking at the brand you got and how it was applied (roller instead of sprayer) I’m fairly certain you got a paint. Not a big deal in some circumstances, will just require more maintenance over time. Looks good though!

Why did I have your same EXACT experience but with my kitchen cabinets? I fell in love with a color, swatched it and it looked pinkish. The second color turned out looking gray. The third color was too dark. And I finally settled for the fourth because I was tired and it was close enough to what I wanted 😂
